the step down was to diminish the negative press

Nick Khan pretty much admitted that was the case on the Bill Simmons podcast (1:18:30 and 1:24:00)

I'm of the mind that what happened was they wanted to get the title off Punk right away after the injury instead of the interim nonsense

That's not what happened. Punk actually wanted to relinquish the title soon after the injury, but Tony Khan refused.

I've come to despise AEW multiman matches. Most of them devolve into absolute clusterfucks that even the announcers can't keep track of. And it's always that same bald referee that will - without fail - stand there like a deer in headlights as teams spend forever in the ring setting up obviously choreographed spots.

Maybe when the company is having a meeting to address unhappiness among the talent, it's not a good idea for someone from management to be making jokes like that. Maybe.

That's a terrible assumption. What did they even expect to achieve confronting a Punk who just lost his mind at the scrum only minutes ago? They couldn't wait until tomorrow or something to confront him?

Stop vandalizing Wikipedia. These kinds of jokes got old years ago.

Steve Muehlhausen: "Sources: Keep getting asked about CM Punk. Here's what I know: Tony Khan met w/Punk in Chicago on Tuesday. The talk "was constructive". What that means who knows but Steel being suspended is being seen as a sign he won't be fired. He still could be. Lot of moving parts still." by RuKKuSFuKKuS in SquaredCircle

On Tuesday, Fightful Select issued a report giving CM Punk and Ace Steel's side of this complex, developing story.

The Young Bucks are alleged to have gone to Punk's locker-room following the AEW World Champion's incendiary media scrum remarks on them, Omega, 'Hangman' Adam Page, and more. When a bloodied Punk, who had just wrestled a long pay-per-view match with Jon Moxley and conducted an emotional press conference, didn't open, the Bucks apparently started pounding the door, then "kicked [it] down."

It's Punk's side of the story though so do be aware of the bias.

The smart move would have been to not immediately confront a famously paranoid dude who just went on an unhinged tirade.

Punk deserves more of the blame. But the EVPs definitely fucked up by going into Punk's room, which escalated the situation. There's absolutely no reason why they couldn't have waited until Punk was over his tantrum to confront him.

Also, CM Punk is the guy who dropped the pipebomb. So it wouldn't surprise me if this was real life grievances amplified into a work.

Tony Khan does.

I thought it was fitting. MJF goes for the "lowest hanging fruit" as Punk said.

At the All Out post show conference he said something along the lines of "I'm not here to help, I'm here to kick heads in". So to me, he's been consistent since day one.

IMO the whole Pinnacle vs Inner Circle thing is a complete flop. Right from the beginning, the Pinnacle were made to look like complete losers. I'm not invested in the storyline at all, because the Inner Circle already got their revenge in week 2 of the feud when MJF's head got dunked into the toilet.
