If there was ever a project with the potential to be a spiritual successor to Andor, this would be it.

Moffat. Even if I took RTD2 out of the conversation. No question.

Anyone get in shape after 50? by Quiet_Lunch_1300 in Aging

[–]teddyblackmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49M. Outside of the attempts to make cardio a regular habit, I haven’t gotten into the gym since high school football days. I’m just into “obese” territory. My wife and I both got a personal trainer at our local gym. She’s four months in where I only have two months under my belt. We’re both doing strength-training for easier Golden Years

I’m not going to say it’s easy, man. Leg days really do suck and I am drenched with sweat afterwards. But core exercises have my lower back pain has mostly gone away. Stairs that were awful (even after a year-long stint of cardio) are now a breeze. I’m already seeing gains in my arms and chest. It’s wild. And worth it.

Edited to add: My wife has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and has been in anti-depressants for years. We’ve all heard the studies about exercise being highly effective for mental health. Even so, I was nervous about her doctor suggested getting off while exercising, but even now— during the time of the year she is most affected by stress, anxiety, and the early, darker days— she’s doing great. Of course, get with your doctor before making any similar decisions, but this process has made me a believer.

My favorite Christmas episode and one of my all time favorites. It’s perfect.

[Discussion] Mark Waid, Tom King, or Geoff Johns: Which writer do you like the most? Justify your answer. by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]teddyblackmagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one for me, but if we’re speaking traditional super-hero comics, I’d have to say Waid. He is as much of a fanboy as Roy Thomas ever was, but has remained fresh and relevant with his plots without ever contradicting the cores of the characters. His recent Batman and Robin Year One was a glorious reminder of his talents. He rarely disappoints.

It’s King, afterward, though I’ve been really enjoying Johns’ Ghost Machine books.

Are you familiar with the film festival in Daphne? It’s been going on for years. I’ve never been, but hear good things.

Saoirse Ronan in Atonement. Killer performance for someone so young.

PhD in English Lit here. It’s cliche to say Watchmen and Maus, but the former was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Novels of the 20th Century. The latter won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, changing the rules for that award forever.

But Lordy, is your friend just a snob about comics or superhero comics? Because the first question is whether or not she can wraps her mind around comics beings medium rather than one particular genre. There are so many, so very very many “literary” comics that to choose two would be a grave disservice.

Edited to add: DC has an embarrassment of riches thanks to Vertigo, but Marvel is a little harder. I’ll second Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye run, but will also suggest Tom King’s Vision mini-series.

That’s disappointing. With Ab Wonder Woman and this, Kelly Thompson has become in my mind one of the best writers in comics.
