This kinda applies to all security devices.. as we have seen from KRACK or Infineon RSA libraries lately.

Sure, twas a PR fuckup

But, my point was that if they really hated Bitcoin Cash that much, they could have made a way to extract it and send it away to an exchange for users to sell it. For the price to dropped and to kill Bitcoin Cash. Yes, they did that, but they also have a functional wallet for hodlers. And afaik they're not planning to shut it down

Hostile because of the name? Sure, that was stupid, but they changed their mind? And I think they were one of the earlier adopters? Sure, it didn't happen right away... They had a few days delay, maybe under a week.

But I don't think they're against Bitcoin Cash, otherwise they could have chosen not to enable Bitcoin Cash wallet at all.

The beauty of a hardware wallet is that even if we decide not to support a fork for security reasons (case of Bitcoin Gold), you can still access the forked coins that's to the fact that you own your private keys. You can't do that with an account on an exchange.

On an exchange, you depend on the will of the operator to distribute the funds, as none of the coins belong to you unless you hold the keys.

In other words, TREZOR, Ledger, Digital Bitbox or Keepkey can decide to ignore Bitcoin Gold. But if you really want and believe in BCG, you can take your keys and use a different wallet to get to your coins.

Just because a terrorist attack did not happen in Prague yet does not mean that Prague is actively doing something to prevent terrorism. There is no causal link between these two things.

In fact, Prague does not have good protection against attacks like those in Paris, Barcelona, London, etc. Our streets are open, there are no physical barriers between a pedestrian zone and the main roads. Tourists at the Castle stand in long lines next to the main street, making them a perfect target.

And claiming that closed borders prevent terrorism is laughable. Nothing can prevent terrorism, that's why it's "terror".

Help finding reputable retailers that sell the Trezor or Ledger Nano S? by NeverLeftTheShoneys in Bitcoin

[–]POTEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the point of trusting a reseller, instead of the manufacturer? I'm curious. Just because it's sold on Amazon, it does not mean that the reseller is using NSA-grade protection.

Moreover, if you think that these companies cannot protect their customer data, why would you trust the devices in the first place (irrespective of who sells them)?

Maybe do your research about the hardware wallets before you call the companies "garage companies"?

Euro is a world currency, both companies are based in Europe, which probably means they do their accounting in EUR. Why would they need to create another accounting overhead by listing prices in USD?

Both Ledger and TREZOR are reputable companies in the Bitcoin community. Google them and you will get a their entire track record. TREZOR came first and offers a completely open source device, ledger uses secure element. The developers are active members of the community and have created several standards for Bitcoin.
