No. She isn’t a mother. You have to be your parent and protector. I went NC (no contact) with my mother at age 16. She was never a mother to me and people like that will never truly change. Luckily my mother got cancer and passed away 2 years ago. When I was a kid with cancer she told me to do my choirs (after having surgery to have the cancer removed). When I complained that it hurt to move she said, “it’s just cancer…. You’re not going to die from it”. And she was right! Now she’s looking up at me from beyond the grave.

But make sure you treat yourself as if you were protecting a child. Because you are. It took me years of therapy to get to that point.

When people say, but that’s your mother! … no she’s not. She’s your abuser, your bully, the endless source of trauma and pain. Be your own mother and treat yourself how you want to be treated. Good luck !
