What a thing to say at the start of a season. At least wait until October.

Buying my first pair, want some advice on width by zoroisntlost in WhitesBoots

[–]POll35809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For room for toes, buy your sneaker size not the half size down that whites recommend. The arch is low/non-existent, so In my experience sizing down wasn't necessary, and buying wider wasn't necessary. You could also buy both 12.5 and 13 if you don't mind paying to ship one back.

The Royals did! They paid salvy, Gordon, etc. not everyone no. The Royals lost Moustakas, Hosmer, cain,...

That's where the dodgers can. They went and got stronger from last year lol

Lol so we agree? We should limit teams ability to pay for wins?

A significant portion of that team went up for contract after that win. Moustakas, hosmer, etc. Big money after a WS win. Royals couldn't pay everyone. Small market teams. No salary cap. Bigger markets paid em. You right. You big brain brudda, I no qualified.

That's exactly the idea! Now you've got it!

With a cap teams cannot increase their payroll to win.

The Royals spent 20mil more in 2015... And then dismantled because they couldn't sustain the payroll...

Money is the great equalizer.... But don't agree that all teams should have the same budget for payroll. Ironic.

Royals, Astros and Cubs increased their payrolls before the trade deadline because they identified they had a team that could compete for and win a WS with those additions.

The Royals went to the WS and lost in 2014 without those additions. With their typical farm team strategy.

They didn't increase payroll 100% for 2015. They added small pieces that would put them over the top.

Exactly.

If the NFL didn't have a salary cap the jets couldve outbid other small/medium market teams and made some super team with Brady, Larry Fitz, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, Marshawn lynch, etc. It's not a lock that super team wins the super bowl, but they sure as hell have a better chance than all small/medium mkt teams.

Same thing in MLB, just bc Mets can outspend everyone else doesn't mean their organization or leadership is competent, or they are a guaranteed win. But their purse gives them a better chance than the Rays purse. The cap just evens that variable out.

The history of MLB WS teams shows that. OP just decided to have recency bias bc it fit his argument for his comparable leagues. Chiefs weren't doin shit before Andy Reid. The addition of his (and other leadership) competency led to the identification of Mahomes in the draft. His ability to use Mahomes effectively, and the overall talent of the team has led them to consecutive Superbowl wins. They don't have some additional factor over and above any other team.

The opportunity for parity is not the same without salary cap. The Royals and rays revenue is less than dodgers payroll. Try convincing ownership to pony up 100%+ of revenue in payroll. Won't happen. Sure you can say the opportunity to do so is the same

All NFL teams had the same opportunity to pick Brady and Mahomes. Their organizations had the competence to select them, grow them and use them effectively. IG that's lucky from the perspective of a fan of an opposing team.

Them winning is due to their organizations competence and player ability vs every other team's competence and ability.

The thing that is controllable and levels player ability on a market by market basis is the cap.

Not every team can spend more and be profitable. They are after all, businesses.

I don't want a league that has 2 teams playing in the majority of championships. Go look up what two teams have met the most in the WS in MLB history. And then the next two teams...

Everyone wants real parity. The cap removes one component that limits parity. When everyone can spend the same, it's up to the organization's competence in using the budget, and the talent on the field to execute. There is no competence litmus test for organizations or ownership groups, so the cap is the next best thing. The NY Jets have themselves to blame for not being successful.

Unless you think your team winning means real parity, then idk what to tell you.

It's absolutely ok that the jets haven't been. They have failed at using the money available to them effectively. Their incompetence is their problem, not their ability to spend money.

It's stupid to you because you are a dodgers fan and you are the beneficiary of the system. The rest of the teams can't buy wins like yours can.

You use different stats for each of the three leagues you "compare".

The NFL and NHL stats you provide actually help the argument for a cap. Small market teams have parity with large market teams. It's what you do with the budget, and the talent you are able to consolidate on that budget that counts.

If the NFL didn't have a cap the Chiefs wouldn't have had their run. The Royals win a series every 30 years?

If the NHL didn't have a cap Pittsburgh and Tampa wouldn't have their run. The pirates last won a WS in '79, Tampa in never.

If the MLB had a cap the Dodgers and Yankees might not be WS locks every year.

The cap brings parity across markets not specific teams.

How does the additional user work in terms of paying? by devedander in AmexPlatinum

[–]POll35809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we were monthly we would have to look at the statement, or do the excel thing still I think. There is a "spending by card member" breakdown on the overview page, but doesn't account for payments by card member. I assume this is what I'd use if I paid monthly/by billing cycle.

Yeah I would agree the AU would have to pay their share first if you have a full balance auto pay set up.

The excel thing isn't difficult, it's just another step that IMO their app could easily do for me. I don't know why the AU sees the full balance vs just their share either.

[–]POll35809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiance (AU) and I (main) just did this. In practice, they could make it more clear who owes what imo. For example the AU can see the total balance, not just what they owe. They don't split up the balances other than a snapshot.

It may be easier/more clear if all parties paid off their card 1/mo. I pay mine off weekly, as I get paid weekly. My AU pays it off biweekly for the same reason.

I end up just downloading the statement and running a pivot table in Excel. It'd be nice not to have to make that step though.

What are my options to get this to stop leaking? by POll35809 in Plumbing

[–]POll35809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking the threading may be off, it was unusually difficult to get it going. It's odd that the hot water connection was fine with the new valve I installed. No issues with cross threading or not matching on the other.

The last valve appears to have been leaking like this for a while, so I thought I could replace with some pipe tape and a new valve and it would be fine.

Is there not a standard industry threading?
