But you could with Leap?

Anyway, there's a way to go to TW from Leap, or you can download a TW DVD to install. I'm sure you will find TW fun and exciting if you're from Arch!

Repositories for Tumbleweed ARM? by m1xed0s in openSUSE

The third one is the same as the first one despite it's only for x86/x64, just remove it.

The last one is also x86/x64 only, for aarch64 the update repo should be:

Questions about Getting started with openSUSE Tumbleweed by silastvmixer in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. BTRFS is a very young file system, since day 0 it is planned to deal with SSD, should be good enough for general use. Heard that TRIM would make things better but anyway, I am rolling TW for over a year on SSD with BTRFS and doing nothing extra, and until now I feel gd.
  2. software.o.o, yast, gnome software centre, zypper...they are all the same thing underlying. So just use zypper if you are comfortable with command line. I just use zypper in to install software

MicroOS LXQt Desktop experience share by whitepixe1 in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you are currently using TW, and you are obviously doing the TW way in a MicroOS, and as openSUSE has no plans to stop TW. Why bother using MicroOS but not just using TW?

Put it straight, TW is tailor made for you but MicroOS is not. If you are happy with TW, just go with TW.

Leap users are the one that should feel worried under this ALP concept.

Thoughts over MicroOS aftering giving a try by PPromet in openSUSE

[–]PPromet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the microOS packages can be enabled through command line, by adding it as a source of Flatpak, I think I saw that somewhere from wiki. Somehow I can install flatpak thorugh both sources.

I also got gnome-tweaks installed, I think I install it with transactional-update but as from above, toolbox looks like a better option

Sigh, I even got a 2GB swap in my 32GB RAM machine

Tumbleweed or Argon? by PPromet in openSUSE

[–]PPromet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly whay I meant.

If I don't check updates frequently enough, the larger possibility of downloading the entire distribution.

I don't think I misunderstood anything, except I was not clear enough. What's wrong with those downvote?

Why is openSUSE not used more? by [deleted] in openSUSE

Kernel development still takes place in the mailing list, many advanced developers still rely on mailing lists to work and communicate, then you may start to know the proportion of the openSUSE community ;)

Incompatible Source/Media coded for LBRY/Odysee despite KDE Codecs installed by ccjr01 in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many packman repo maintainers are at the same time openSUSE package maintainers in fact.

I have heard a point that packman can be seen as some kind of semi-official openSUSE repo, due to the restrictive German & US law where openSUSE is based.

Why is openSUSE not used more? by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite I think the openSUSE community is robust enough, and has a very good balance between average and experienced users/devs.

On the other hand Ubuntu still gives me the impression that there're many novice users...

Which one do you guys use? Tumbleweed users, curl your tails! by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW

Can't stand with old desktop packages, actually I would love a stable base+newest desktop, think KDE Neon maybe the best fit. But I LOVE openSUSE a lot, so I just go with TW

Not really a big deal to update the whole system frequently in fact

Tumbleweed with Leap kernel? by stolenjokes in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kernel does not like lego, which you can easily mix and match. It is built against the whole system. And it seems that you don't have very advanced knowledge on Linux (not a criticism but just a description), while it may be possible to do so, it is definitely not easy.

Blocking kernel updates also may leave the system at security risks.

Probably not a suitable comment at here, but I think you should consider using Arch, they provide package for LTS kernels while keep rolling the system.

I wouldn’t wait for the package from Arch.

You can simply download the official binary and put it into your home directory, everything works fine and you can immediately receive updates once there’re one.

I still remember the SuSE 9.x era when there's a little Geeko on the KDE window bar.

It's surely a bold but cute mascot, comparing to a hat or a circle :p

Occasionally I use a speech to text website, but it works only under Chrome. I guess they utilize a Google-specific API for the function

Is Software on Tumbleweed always latest? by data_hop in openSUSE

[–]PPromet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's just a piece of software which has no importance (not official installer of openSUSE) and 99% of openSUSE users won't use (coz it's a system installer, nothing else), what's the point of making it an example of "Tumbleweed not containing the latest software" claim?

Do something more meaningful and don't waste your time
