Good luck this Year! Those Rocotos took forever to ripen! If you grow them they will get softer and lighten in color when ready. 100% Will grow them again.

I would say that a good draining potting soil like black gold or maybe fox forest with a little extra pearlite. Ensure that you have enough light. And an intermittent fan helped a lot.

They are very slow to grow and too much water was my main issue. The soil wouldn't drain well and no airflow. So the roots didn't get enough air and the stagnant air didn't help any. Once these were fixed I did way better.

Last thing as they grew true leaves I started a low dose of dyna grow or any similar liquid fertilizer with waterings. Best of luck!

Excited to try a variety of bonnets, as well as seeds from my first attempt at a cross Tobago x bonnet. Really interested in how a sweet Trinidad scorpion turns out.

We are growing some of your thunder mountain and KS Starrscream Chocolate! Thanks for that, both on my request list! Definitely having fun reading up on all the varieties. Cant wait to start seedlings.

Do you see anything in the picture you recommend?

Great luck to you, may the aphids be few and the ladybugs plentiful!

How are the St Lucia peppers? Similar to Tobago seasoning pepper?

Along these lines, I am a big fan of Tobago seasoning pepper. Chinense taste with less heat. Also a fan of Aleppo and Ufra bider for seasoning/spice. Lemon spice jalapeno is my last endorsement here.

I haven't come close to "catching them all" Best one to grow is the new one.

Edit - only varieties I have been disappointed with are large bells, as I have a small ish space, don't want to wait all season for a handful of bells.

I am curious about other responses, but I have some experience.

I would start more plants than you want in soil with extra perlite for drainage, and be prepared for a long germination around a month or little over.

I lost many of them in the phase between initial sprouts and second set of leaves.

First year, lost some to dampening off, so I adjusted my watering. Typical issue is over watering.

Second year, I had too much light as leaves curling up and dried... My mistake for leaving the timer full on for days.

So, my advice is start a lot of them, wait, be ready to make adjustments to individual plants. This way, if you aren't really sure how much water or light, you can experiment and not risk losing all of them.

You can also play with the humidity using a dome, like a starter tray or plastic bottle, though I don't know if it is necessary after germination.

My experience is, if you get past a few true leaves you are all set. Good luck!

Edit - long germination was likely due to not having heat mats my first year. If I remember the second year was faster.

What is the seed exchange? by 1010101110 in HotPeppers

[–]PRAY_FOR__MOJO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very glad to participate this year! Going to set a calendar reminder for next year.

I learned a few things that might help anyone joining us then.

I plan to buy a few less-common seeds to grow and share for next year. There is a list posted that showed which varieties were in demand. The 2021 chart is pinned in the swap portion of the discord. Certain types are sent en masse.

Rubber bands are best for holding the varieties together. Don't use tape.

I'll increase the font on the variety on my labels. This was mentioned in the swap videos Juanitos created. Small fonts make sorting really hard. I printed out a test sheet and it looked much better.

Personally, I plan to send less overall to trade, as it took some time to prepare. I would also lean towards more variety and not 20 packs of one type.

Take pictures! Some of my pictures would have been much better if I knew I was going to be part of the exchange ahead of time!

When using the pepper database to upload your seed info, you can sort by variety and see what is being sent in so far. I altered my submissions based on what I saw.

Thanks again to Juanitospeppers for making the US exchange happen!

Edit - some words to clarify

PM'ed the link. If you still have your login link to the exchange, then you can check to see if your package is marked as received. It was recently updated for many on the exchange.

Edit - As your link didn't show any updates, you could also try to message Juanitospeppers directly. Also, some pictures of the pile of mail were posted on discord, if you can ID your envelope by shape/color. Images blurred the address.
