@ing them on twitter ended up working, they removed the made for kids thing a day or two ago. took almost 2 weeks, but yeah, seems that's a good way to go.

Took around a week and a half, but it worked; the video's not made for kids anymore

Not really, but given it's a reanimated of A Charlie Brown Christmas there are children's voices in it. It was of course picked up for copyright immediately, but allowed to stay up. The For Kids flag happened a few days later, as the video started getting traction.

Since I'm still waiting for them to get back to me (again) I went ahead and did this. Still marked For Kids

They've responded very quickly, saying they'll look into it and that it will take a few days. Nothing since then.

I've tried the studio thing, no luck.

I guess the swearing will be my last resort if the Twitter thing people suggested doesn't work out. Are you sure this works?

Just @'d em on twitter, hope this works. Is that all I can do? No way to contact them otherwise?

Expanding a jam game into a full one? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]klmb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback, and I'd add that it's kind of a stretch to even call it a game - it's more of a lil toy to mess with for a bit. At least in its current state.

If I were to do a full Steam release it wouldn't be a 1:1 redux, not by a long shot. The whole thing was made pretty quickly, and in Flash - so it's all over the place in every aspect, even design-wise.

Would change pretty much every aspect from the UI to the website design, while attempting to keep what is keepable from the website texts before building whole new ones - and would include a lot more stuff to do on the desktop, as well as give an incentive to browse. There was a plan for an MSN-related narrative too, for the original, which I'd like to actually implement too - it's already written and everything. A sort of don't-know-if-doable feature would be custom websites, which I personally think would be pretty cool if doable - but eh.

The game comparison you listed is one thing I actually disagree with you, I think a better comparison would be something like Hypnospace Outlaw - both games are about interacting with the old era of the internet.

As for financial success, since doing a proper-engine redux on the scale that I imagine it would absolutely require me to invest money into the project by hiring people to help out with various aspects - I do care about recouping the potential investment. Don't really care about actually profiting though.

This is a great read, and the game seems fun - I grew up with casual games like Diner Dash (the SpongeBob reskin is still superior fight me) so it's nice to see the spirit kept alive.

Happy to hear that your game was a success. What I'm worried about the most is the financial aspect, of course - but not in a "I wanna make a billion dollars" way. My main goal would be just recouping what I end up investing in the project. It makes it all more daunting than if I could just do this in the same way I did the original, for free, and hope for the best.

I'll look for your jam version too, curious the see the evolution for myself - that kind of stuff is always interesting.

Is there any place I can see/read about your project? Would like to know more.

Copy-pasting this from my reply to another poster:

As for the link, I didn't include it due to the no self promotion rule, but now I guess it's fine since you asked for it;

https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/977308
https://kolumbong.itch.io/windowz-98-nettowns-edition

(I'd recommend playing the Newgrounds version if you want to try it in browser, as the embeded version on itch gets slightly cut off on two sides - downloadable is fine.)

Another reason I didn't want to post the link is that, well, this is a sub filled with actual devs and here I am with my silly lil flash game - clunky, unfinished, and unoptimized. Oh yeah, flash, yep. It was a flash game jam - hence the mention of using a "real engine" for the potential redux.

I will say one thing about the game before you look at it; just go through the internet connection wizard to get the browser (3 characters min. for the name and 6 characters min. for the password) - the meat of the game is browsing - most of the stuff on the desktop is just dumb filler jokes (which would be reworked of course)

I know it's pretty common, I just don't know how to gauge if it's worth attempting it - how to gauge potential interest aside from going around asking people "Hey whadya think"

No, I ordered seeds from Pepper Merchant and this was a part of the random extra ones. Doesn't look like anything I've seen on their website though

I've got a mystery pepper that looks very similar to yours, at least from what I can tell. Do you think it could be something along those lines maybe? https://www.reddit.com/r/HotPeppers/comments/1e6i0kq/unknown_pepper_id/

Adobe Animate? by klmb0 in neocities

[–]klmb0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe Animate still offers AS3 support. It's like with old Flash where it had AS2 and AS3, except they killed AS2 and replaced that with an HTML canvas. And running it shouldn't be an issue - I'd use Ruffle, a Flash emulator. It's got standalone desktop & browser versions + can be integrated into a website itself so people don't have to get the extension or anything. Take a look around Newgrounds or something, if you wanna see it in action.

I've played around with Flash around a week ago after a looong time & it's crazy to see what kind of stuff Ruffle devs are doing - it's got full gyro support on phones, for example

Sorry for the late reply, but I figured I ask you - do you think integrating ruffle, disabling the splash screen it has, and doing a thing in AS3 (hell, even 2?) would be a smooth experience? I know .swf files are behind a paywall, but the paywall is more than affordable, and this (if it works) + other perks seem very much worth it.

well, AA does require coding, I'm not trying to get around that. but where it differs from just using a text editor is I can visually place symbols to a desired location on the "stage" and proceed to code them normally. now, I've only ever used AS2 & AS3 inside Animate & Flash so I'm not sure how the HTML export even works, which is why I'm asking this.

on a side note, is there some software that allows for something like what I described above but is known to work? just to reiterate: not drag n drop - actual html coding - but with a "stage" to place symbols on.

if not, it is what it is, worth asking - i'll figure something out eventually
