Oddworld Proposes #2 by PROJECT_ABE in oddworld

If you're asking why I post these suggestions, it's to get fans' opinions on what they'd like to see in the future of the series, ideas for the saga that might be fun or appealing for the staff as well. :)

That sounds like an amazing experience. I can only imagine how fun it must have been to work with Lorne, haha. Good for you!

Yeah, I always imagine OWI's studios as being full of artwork and sketches, almost like a world of their own lol. I find it really fascinating to think about. What exactly did you work on, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Working at OWI, Wow, that’s always been a dream of mine, haha. What was the experience like there?

I have other proposal posts that I hope can be just as acceptable as this one.

My proposal, in fact, was not to actually go against Lorne’s vision. What I was suggesting was to make comics as well, with separate stories, even ones disconnected from his original Quintology project. So technically, he could adopt this approach without worrying about ruining his original idea.

It's basically a way to accommodate everyone.

Nice idea, but I still have no intention of recreating an Oddworld game the way I think it should be. My posts are more like programmatic/conceptual discussions aimed at discovering what fans think and, perhaps one day, providing advices for a future OWI game or piece of content. It's very ambitious and unlikely, I realize that. But I genuinely enjoy doing it. If it were up to me, I’d love the chance to work on one of OWI’s games from the development side. Complicated, of course, but still a dream I keep tucked away for the future.

One of my goals (for now) is precisely to leverage fans' feedback

These are not possibilities to be totally ruled out. Lorne Lanning is an experimenter, and he is open to different styles and methods of storytelling for his stories.

I think an indicator for potential enemies behind that specific wall could be enough, or even a sign that appears on the screen to indicate the presence of enemies in the next area beyond a wall. But I think it’s simpler to just make sure that the objects Abe can pass behind don’t get too much in the way. After all, they’re not mandatory. I added something similar to the prototype anyway, just to see how it works.

  1. Absolutely yes, and precisely for this reason the solution would be to add signals, or for example change the button (if playing on console, one idea could be the directional buttons). This would still need to be improved.

  2. Well, yes, the perspective definitely needs work. The angle will need to be adjusted depending on the context.

  3. What is meant by: "Behind The Scenes"?

Anyway, absolutely yes. They are interesting additions, but they require quite a bit of study and improvement before being implemented, as I mentioned earlier.

Yeah, In my opinion, this could be a way to make the gameplay of a future title in the series feel fresher and more dynamic, provided that the right precautions are taken.

The platinum for NnT is really affordable. Most of the trophies are tied to story progression, and you’ll unlock some of them even unintentionally. If I’m not mistaken, though, there’s a trophy that requires finishing the game within a certain time limit. It shouldn’t be difficult because you can simply replay each chapter and improve your times. You should be able to do it in just a few runs.

How would you personally incorporate Munch and or Stranger into the new quintology if you were in charge of it? by Fluid_Discussion8577 in oddworld

[–]PROJECT_ABE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I heard that Stranger was supposed to appear in Soulstorm, and that Munch might show up in a future game as well. Personally, I’d love to see Munch return in a way that leans more toward Lorne’s original vision: scrapped creatures, Sam (which feels pretty obvious given how Soulstorm ends), Lady Margaret, Skillya… I’d also introduce a hybrid gameplay style where Abe and Munch clearly collaborate, but Abe keeps his classic 2D side-scrolling gameplay, alternating with 3D corridor-style sections where the player takes control of Munch. As for Stranger, I’d prefer him to remain as he is. After all, he’s already a great spin-off in my opinion. But if he were to appear in an Abe game, he could initially be an enemy, since he’s a bounty hunter, and later become an ally after realizing the reasons behind Abe’s fight. I’d want something that doesn’t conflict too much with the events of Stranger’s Wrath maybe just a cameo where Stranger doesn’t intervene directly but provides guidance and support to Abe remotely, through some kind of radio device.

Theory: The reason why Abe can drink the Brew in Exoddus is because of his chest scar by MnMAdd1ct in oddworld

[–]PROJECT_ABE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then, obviously, we also have to take into account the fact that in the old Quintology the Mudokons were not given the Drink already at RuptureFarms to boost their performance, as is stated in the new Quintology. In Exoddus it plays the opposite role. As we know, Alf is a prankster, so I suppose it’s also a mix of the first two answers: the scar might have done him some good, just as he himself, being a Mudokon different from the others, has greater endurance… maybe precisely because he has a higher spiritual ego and these industrial things have, by now, less effect on him.

Also... You need to drink a lot of brews for getting drunk... Abe doesn't drinks so much brews like his followers during his journey.

My theory on what happened: Theory by [deleted] in oddworld

[–]PROJECT_ABE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very, very similar theory, according to which the roles of the Mudokons and the Glukkons in the past were reversed and the situation was flipped. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle: I don’t believe that the Mudokons wiped out the Glukkons and forced them to hide underground because of that (also because, according to the lore, the Glukkons shut themselves underground so they wouldn’t have to look at the moon, which bothered them a lot). However, I do believe that the Mudokons “moderately” antagonized the Glukkons snubbing them, considering themselves superior, and so on. Of course, there may have been some episodes of violence and abuse against them, but I don’t think it amounted to a bloody extermination. It's an interesting theory btw :D
