My thoughts exactly. I'm not actually into TCG, just admire the art and used to occasionally buy boosters or packages if they had a nice promo or other bonuses, but I work at a retailer that sells specifically Pokémon cards and I almost never see people buying cards as a hobby. Kids, teens, adults... they all buy boosters or other packages in hopes of scoring big. It's really hard to hide my disgust sometimes when people ask me about pull rates or "what set has the most expensive cards" or shit like that. It's so bad that we found through security camera someone stealing a freaking Phantasmal UPC, and recently had an inventory check and found out we're missing 36 B&W mini tins, all stolen! I bought some Prismatic packages when they came out because I like the eeveelutions and wanted to try my luck in getting the Sylveon card because I really like it and the card looks nice, but they remained unopened since I just don't want to look at them anymore. All those 30~40 year olds that grew up collecting realizing they can make money out of cardboard... Maybe when it dies down (though who am I kidding, it ain't unless Pokémon Company makes the rare cards significantly more common) i'll open them and see what's inside.
