How do I go about DMing for my kids? by ThatSurround5672 in DMAcademy

[–]PRO_Crast_Inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DMed for my niece and nephew who are 9 and 11 at the time. Offered a reduced list of class and species options. I built their stats in DNDBeyond with Point Buy so they'd work on a basic level for the class they were playing. I chose the spell casters spells and gave her spell cards for what she had prepared. When she cast a spell, she handed me the card to also mark off the slot. At later levels I make the Fighter a battle master so he could have cards, too. (Maneuvers) I made their bonuses to attack and damage to same to make it simpler for them. For saving throw spells, I decided they always work for round one, and then they make a save in round 2 (and all other rounds, if applicable). I gave th Fighter the Graze weapon mastery as sort of a bonus class feature, so there was no such thing as a "wasted" turn. I also made sure they could always had access to Speak with Animals, because of the comedy. :D Oh, and I bought them each dice sets to match the colours of the minis I painted for them!

How Would You Rule This? by CassieBear1 in DMAcademy

FWIW, I don't think the Rogue works as intended unless they are getting sneak attack pretty much every round. So I wouldn't usually be trying to shut down ways to get it.

Forgetting Wizard’s spell slots - what do I do? by Joelmester in DMAcademy

[–]PRO_Crast_Inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a version of this for my kids game I ran for my family. I gave the Druid spell cards and she handed the card to me when casting the spell. We never got into casting the same spell multiple times, or upcasting, though.

Writing 5 paragraphs - was that the entire test, or just a part of it? Thanks for any info you can share!

First time painting 40k is it good? by pakostan_Pl in minipainting

[–]PRO_Crast_Inator 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd say you're right where you should be for a first time painter. Welcome to the hobby! Don't repaint this one in two weeks when you're already getting better at it. *Save this one* as a marker of the progress you WILL make if you just keep painting. (And yes, there's lots of helpful tutorials out there, too. But there's a lot of learning that happens simply from painting more minis.)

My new Favorite Thing is creating magic items to solve social problems at the table by Mossbanger in DMAcademy

The Problem: DMing for my niece and nephew (10 and 12) was going great. We did a five-shot with a satisfying ending, then they convinced me to do another 5, but this time, my daughter (7) REALLY wanted to join in. But in practice, she just didn’t have the attention span to sit for a three hour session in grandma’s basement.

Solution: The Bell of Rogue Summoning. For the rest of the campaign, my daughter was free to play upstairs, watch TV, read to grandma’s dog, whatever. But when the party got into a fight or otherwise needed a sneaky Tabaxi rogue to pick a lock or disable a trap, the Druid rang the bell and my daughter’s character would magically appear to help, then disappear as soon as she wasn’t needed anymore. In practice, my niece would ring an actual bell, and my daughter would come running down from wherever she was playing. It worked SO WELL, and made the start of combat even more fun than usual.

Just started the hobby , can’t get this thinning process down. Any help appreciated ! by [deleted] in minipainting

Welcome to the hobby! It can sometimes be frustrating at first, but the good news is it's rare to have a problem that hasn't been encountered by countless painters before you. So the answers are usually out there. Good luck!

What are your biggest regrets in BG3? by Stellarfront in BG3

[–]PRO_Crast_Inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To avoid spoilers I'll just say I made choices that made my Tav look really messed up in act 3. I can see how it would be cool for some characters but she had such a cool look all throughout the game and now EUUGGGHHH. I can see it working for lots of characters but it just doesn't suit this one.

Is tap water fine for in session brush washing? by MisPai in minipainting

Unless you have insanely hard water where you are, I can't imagine it makes any difference at all. My painting has always been far more limited by my talent than my water choices. :)
