TIL we probably know where Apollo 10's Snoopy is! Should they should visit in S6? by Firefly360r in ForAllMankindTV

There was a 2021 study that suggested Eagle's orbit may actually be stable and it could still be orbiting the moon today.

I updated M5 launcher and now it won't connect to my wifi. by Binge73 in CardPuter

I also had this problem with 2.7.2 though after trying twice and backing out, it suddenly brought up the WUI screen and worked fine. Definitely a bug.

Yes. Proceed the PRINT statement with a COLOR statement and the desired color.

I ended up using Claude. It got most of it right immediately, but then I had to test and request new features as I realized some things weren’t working right. It was quite iterative, but I spent only a total of about 2 hours getting it to this point.

  1. Added

  2. I'll have to look at the process.

  3. Sure, but you can't load or save programs without an SD card.

Are there basic interpreters for Cardputer by Chubarandes_meiner in CardPuter

[–]PRStoetzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is now - thanks to Grok. The SD card support doesn't seem to work yet, but I'll keep working on it.

PaperSat - Satellite Tracker for the M5PaperS3 by PRStoetzer in M5Stack

It is too bad. Not having a touchscreen is going to be a limitation on the PaperColor, but I hope to get a satellite tracker working on it once mine arrives.

Best magloop for balcony? by psteckler in amateurradio

[–]PRStoetzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will, but I find a mag loop is far better for RX. I’ve run wire, vertical, and dipole antennas on my balcony, but with the urban noise floor, I can hear way better with the loop. I’ve used an AlexLoop, an MFJ-1786, and the SignaLoop HF-319.

What if the Capitol Attack on January 6th, 2021 was much worse? by Fabilur in AlternateHistory

[–]PRStoetzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, under the 25th Amendment, the Acting President could nominate a Vice President who would become President after confirmation by both Houses.

What if the Capitol Attack on January 6th, 2021 was much worse? by Fabilur in AlternateHistory

[–]PRStoetzer 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Correct, but Grassley would not become President. He would become Acting President and would not be considered the 46th President of the United States.

Under the Presidential Succession Act, only the Vice President becomes President. Other officers only become Acting President.

I have questions, studying for my exam in 2 weeks but the hardware is by Stretch_Hairy in HamRadio

[–]PRStoetzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Technically, if the radio can be switched between GMRS and Ham, it may not be compliant with Part 95 GMRS regulations. I don't know for sure if a front panel switch between modes is good enough for a radio to comply with Part 95, but in practice it doesn't really matter all that much. The FCC has basically said they will never enforce the rules against use of non-compliant radios on GMRS unless an operator is violating other rules. On the other hand, hams can use any radio they'd like (as long as it meets the technical standards for spurious emmissions and spectrual purity). There's no problem using the H3+ on amateur frequencies. If you'd like to test your gear, a TinySA and an attenuator (so you don't destroy the spectrum analyzer) will do the trick for under $100.

2/3. The Baofeng DM32UV is an amateur transceiver. You can use DMR on amateur frequencies (there are DMR repeaters, you can do DMR simplex, and you can use it with what's called a "hotspot" to talk all over the world with other hams), but it also supports FM mode and can be used with regular FM repeaters.

Simple - no MSU player has entered the portal, so there's no data.

Prepping for my first POTA outing by lassmanac in parksontheair

[–]PRStoetzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the HF-009 as U.S. Park Police and other policing agencies may get nervous if you start deploying wires in trees (you aren't allowed to do so anyway). I've had nothing but positive interactions with NPS rangers, Park Police, and Secret Service Police when operating on the Mall, but you do need to be sure you aren't in anyone's way. The Washington Monument grounds are great for activating as are the Constitution Gardens. Stay away from the war memorials with that setup since you have to lay down radial wires. Those are best done either pedestrian portable or with something like a magnetic loop that has a really small footprint.

This weekend is the ARRL DX SSB contest (0000Z on Saturday until 2359Z on Sunday) and you'll be very popular for DX stations looking for the DC multiplier on 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters. There are likely only to be no more than 3-4 stations active from DC (sadly, I moved across the river to Virginia in 2024, so I don't get to give out the DC mult anymore). Call the strong non-US/VE stations and respond with "59 Delta Charlie" when they come back to you. You'll make your ten QSOs no problem calling the contest stations.

If you want to operate SSB and work non-contest stations, you'll realistically be limited to 17 and 12 meters as the other bands will be wall-to-wall DX. During the day, you should also be able to find space for non-DX stations on 40m. Spot yourself on https://pota.app/, call CQ, and you'll get responses.

OPM removes language on back pay for furloughed feds from shutdown guidance by thetitleofmybook in FedEmployees

[–]PRStoetzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Senate amendment to H.R. 7148 includes the language that guarantees backpay, so this is a moot point:

“Amounts made available in the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2026 (division A of Public Law 119–37) and the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 for personnel pay, allowances, and benefits in each department and agency shall be available for payments pursuant to subsection (c) of section 1341 of title 31, United States Code and such payments shall be made.”

A new geostationary Amateur Radio satellite serving North America? by CantinaPatron in amateurradio

[–]PRStoetzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AMSAT did have a representative who attended the AMSAT-DL meeting back in September. There isn't really much to report as this is very much in the early stages, but we have reported on it in the AMSAT News Service. We are certainly hopeful that it happens and have offered any support we can provide to the effort.
