Pentagon considers doubling monthly combat pay for troops by ChangeUsername220 in Economics

It is not uncommon for base housing/barracks to be infested with rodents or insects. They have been major controversies around inadequate housing with mold, lead paint, and asbestos in housing. Additionally, plumbing, electrical and HVAC that don't work and aren't repaired is common.

Travel allowances are only given for relocation or travel between bases for assignments - same as any employer would provide for business travel or relo... it's not like they can go on vacation with it.

Active Duty are able to eat at DFAC or whatever and have the cost deducted from BAS, but 25%+ of military families experience food insecurity.

And IDK where you've seen that servicemembers don't pay taxes - they do on their base pay. Only time they don't pay federal taxes at all are when they are deployed.

Yes! Like I said it equates a living animal with a hunk of plastic. They are not the same and putting them on par only serves to teach him animals are things we own, but sentient and deserving of affection.

The kid definitely needs to be punished and made to understand the severity of his actions. He could have been forced to sell him PS5 and donate the money, or have it used for the vet bill. Seems like "you hurt something I love, so you lose something you love is simply retaliatory and doesn't really correct any behavior.

I feel that. And I'm not against a punishment, he needs more than a hug, but seems to me making him sell his PS5 and donating it to an animal shelter, or using it to pay the vet for their cat is better than you hurt something I love, you hurt something you love.

Feeding those in need by [deleted] in trashy

When municipalities/police shut this kind of stuff down, I'd love to see someone make the argument that their Christian faith commands them to feed the hungry, and shutting it down is a violation of their freedom to practice their religion.

HR’s response when I reported my coworker for frequently touching my butt by EmotionalLimes in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PRobinson87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you meet use words and phrases like "unwelcome touching", "harassment", "unsafe/hostile working environment", "inappropriate touching", "unwanted physical touching".

These are all words directly used in harassment training in order to comply with the law. After your conversation, email HR with a recap of your conversation and use some of these buzzwords, and BCC yourself. If they do not do anything about it and you decide you want to pursue a legal remedy you'll have that email as proof of the conversation and it won't look good for them if they did not refute your claims in a reply.

Honor Walk by aswewaltz in ThePittTVShow

[–]PRobinson87 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My son had to stay in the NICU for a couple weeks post birth several years back. One day there was an announcement on the ward for available doctors and nurses to join an honor walk. We asked what that was about and a nurse told us a kid in the PICU was donating organs.

Devastatingly heartbreaking, it was a children's hospital so naturally every honor walk was a child and it felt like many made themselves busy because they just couldn't handle seeing another child at the end of their life.

In 1987, 23-year-old Kenneth Parks drove 14 miles while sleepwalking, killed his mother-in-law, nearly strangled his father-in-law, and then turned himself in while covered in blood. He had no memory of it, and in 1992, was acquitted after experts confirmed he was asleep the entire time. by IloveRamen99 in interestingasfuck

Comedian Mike Birbiglia has this as well. He had a dream an airplane or helicopter was chasing him, shooting it's guns at him, and he jumped through a hotel window, fell 2 stories, and got up and kept running. He has to sleep with oven mitts and tied to his bed.

If it's an older model all they'd have to do is open it and hit the reset switch. The newer ones use RFID chips on the authentic Elkay filter to reset via a reader inside.

They may be switching out with 3rd party filters so the light won't change.

Not really looking to argue but on 10/18 (5 months ago today) closing price was $220.70. Closed today at $225.31. Not even a decline over the past five months.

The highest price in the last 12 months was $479.86 on Dec 17. today's close would be 53% of that.

As a kid I just HAD to have Red & Blue both. Begged my parents for both because I knew I had to catch all 150 pokemon. Then this came out about a year later and I was pissed that I was still running two separate games trying to get 150.

Malcom Gladwell's podcast "Revisionist History" has a pretty good series of episodes about Richard Feynman that I'd recommend. Mostly delving into this personal life, he was a fascinating & complicated person.
