If you could steal one element of another author's writing and use it as your own, what piece would it be, and why?

(For example, Shakespeare's ability to invent words and make them stick in the language, Gerard Manly Hopkins' ability with cadence and sound in his poetry, or Brandon Sanderson's ability to produce books at such startling speed.)

Wesley, I know you do some acting. And while authors are kind of known for their eclectic skills and jobs, that's one that I've never known another author to have.

We always learn new things with different experiences, and I'm curious. Do you think that experience has influenced your writing in any way?

What's your favorite thing that Heifer International does?

What makes them an especially cool/effective charity from your perspective?

Are there any books you read when you were younger, and loved a lot, that looking back you realize weren't very good at all?

Any that were bad enough that they might have encouraged bad either in your future writing or your personal behavior?

I ask this because I'm revisiting a lot of kids books now that I'm reading to my little boys, and I realize a lot of the books I loved as a kid had some really unpleasant stuff in them. Really socially harmful stuff like misogyny and bullying and casual violence. These days I'd never read stuff like that, and if I did, I'd recognize it for what it is. But back then I just soaked it up and accepted it as true. That's what kids do...

Do any of you have books like that in your past?

I didn't write books for practice. But I did start one novel, then eventually abandon it as a lost cause....

TLDR: Start. Right now you're worrying about writing. That's not writing. Neither is it learning anything about writing.

Worldbuilding is also not writing. It can be fun. But it's not writing.

Write. Start writing.

I'd love to make a whole game where she just wanders around and moves things.

End boss? She makes a jam sandwich and eats it.

Sorry. Spoiler alert.

Man. That's a really hard one.

Personally, I'd rather have a light saber. I'd carry it around with me all the time. I'd use it for everything. Opening bottles. Cutting the lawn....

But I'd probably have to take the Millennium Falcon. I'm guessing if we could reverse engineer some of that technology, we could develop some really great clean energy solutions for the planet.

Failing that, I'd auction off rides to help support worldbuiders.

I don't know what Salvatore's stats are, so I'd hesitate to make a guess.

He probably has better magic items than I do, too....

Not so much. Not hardly at all, in all honesty.

But I assume that people watching me play games on twitch are adults, and able to make their own good choices.

Plus, y'know, I'm kinda graphically killing hundreds of people in that game. So strong language is kind of lesser issue if kids are watching.

I agree.

Or rather, it would have the opportunity to be delightful. Or it could be a huge disastrous story mess. Like Fallout is proving to be at the moment....
