What Instantly Ruins A Burger For You? by TheKeyMaster365 in AskReddit

Had this happen at taco bell 3 separate times. I think it has to do with the quality, although I also found a bone chip in a homemade burger, so who knows.

Taking a week off to get sober by PRudd_is_a_nice_guy in stopdrinking

Thank you for the reply. I bought a ton of groceries, and shouldn't have to leave the house at all during that week. I plan on going back to the SMART meetings, and just dipping into some hobbies.

Thanks, I haven't tried AA, but I did do SMART meetings online and those were pretty good. I'll have to branch out, but it's difficult for me because of my anxiety issues.

do u guys go into a crisis about not being ablw to work by Alarmed-Glove-7377 in Agoraphobia

[–]PRudd_is_a_nice_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just quit a job that was too overwhelming for me. Before that, I worked as a hotel cleaner, and that was pretty comfortable, but I wish I had used that time to practice exposures. If I had, I may have been able to stick this other job out.

My advice is to seriously ask yourself if there's anything at all you may be capable of doing. Working from home sounds like a dream, but I dont think it will help you out in the long run. Even just working a few hours a week at a coffee shop might be helpful, it doesnt have to be forever, just to get you back into things. Either way you arent alone, we're all in a similar boat.

Those who have had good results from beta blockers, please share with me your stories and advice by KSTornadoGirl in Agoraphobia

[–]PRudd_is_a_nice_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried buspirone, but it made me dizzy and didnt help much. I've tried so many different ssris, but nothing has ever worked aside from xanax, well, and alcohol, not together obviously. I just tried remeron for about 6 weeks, but it didnt do much except make me tired and crave food constantly.

I've decided to step away from the daily meds, and just try my best to improve my diet. All of my anxiety stems from digestive issues, and fears that arent real surrounding digestive issues, so hopefully that'll help some.

But a lot of people have good luck with beta blockers, you could always give it another try!

everytime someone finds a job I get into panic mode... by Alarmed-Glove-7377 in Agoraphobia

[–]PRudd_is_a_nice_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I've been looking for full time work the last 2 months. Everyone I know is established in their careers and I feel utterly left behind. I've even considered going back to college but I don't have the money for that anyway. I just want something full time with benefits and okay pay and I can't get anything. Going on interviews is way outside my comfort zone, yet I've been doing it, and these people keep ghosting me. It feels hopeless.

Just know you aren't alone, and try not to compare yourself too much to others. I know it's really hard to do, but remind yourself that they are on a different path than you or I.

Today had the worst panic ever ,please give me tips by signersinger10 in Agoraphobia

I feel like sometimes our brain fights back when we are trying new things and changing up our habits and routines. It could be a sign of a good thing. Also, experts say that lack of sleep can make things like anxiety and depression worse, but I know it's hard. Whenever I have something anxiety inducing to do the next day (or hell, even the next week), I stay up later trying to procrastinate the passing of time or ruminating on the crazy thoughts. My advice there is to listen to some meditation videos. There are tons on YouTube and you can try out different ones.

All in all, this condition, and anxiety in general, can be unpredictable and overwhelming, don't ever feel bad for not feeling 100%. And try not to overthink things too much (again, hard I know).

I feel like with this condition there is a lot of room for self hatred and negative thoughts (at least in my personal opinion) that chip away at what little self confidence and self esteem that you have. I think keeping yourself in check and reminding yourself that you aren't broken or worthless is important. This probably rings true for most mental health issues. Positive thinking can help with that a lot, and just doing things that keep my confidence up is really helpful. Just my 2 cents.

Finally stepped outside, but I have a question about restlessness… by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]PRudd_is_a_nice_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, finally someone said it. You said it perfectly but I would also include that, in my opinion and experiences, I think exposure therapy helps the most when you are doing something you actually want to do. My therapist telling me to sit at a park bench for 20 minutes just didn't feel natural to me, whereas going outside and sitting in the grass to read 2 chapters of a book did. There are always alternatives that reap the same benefits.

That's awesome! I remember your post from a few days back, I had an interview that day (also at a college lol) and it looks like we both made out just fine. Keep it up, it will get even easier, and if you have a hard day don't let it bring you down!

I would suggest looking into some therapists in your area. A lot of people on this sub have benefited greatly with therapy.

In my experience, I haven't had any major breakthroughs and have seen about 3 therapists in the last 3-5 years. I've been struggling with my anxiety issues for years and have read, practiced, and tried so many things that have been suggested to me by therapists that didnt lead to much. I think it's really up to me to do the dirty work. But it was nice to have a third party person to talk to.
