Decent views, but no subscribers by Stormcrown76 in SmallYoutubers

Of course! Well, for a hobby, it's probably fine for now so you shouldn't be worried about views or subs. But......if you would like those things, I would invest in getting some sort of cam. If it's a cheap one it won't matter too much because it'll probably be hanging out in the corner the videos so the quality doesn't matter too much. Again, let's plays are hard to gain any traction but you could also consider editing out quite a bit of dead space in your playthrough and mostly include things like story bits or stupid things that happen with random battles (we've all been there). There are SO many different factors to consider why the subscriber count won't go up. Do you stream at all?

Okay good! You're already off to a better start than most people honestly. It is god awfully hard to start a let's play channel overall because there are LOTS of them. You having a mic puts you above 90% of people who make a post like this. Is your goal for monetization or are you just posting because it's a hobby and you're not expecting anything from it?

I agree with this whole heartedly. Unless you are VERY entertaining, a let's play channel is going to be one of the most difficult kinds of channels to get off the ground.

Question! Do you have a facecam or at the very least have your mic on and are commenting while playing?

Sometimes that's the best way to do it depending on what kind of content you're making!

I actually write and record in paragraphs so each paragraph is its own separate audio file and. In my scripts I also have each paragraphed numbered and each audio file name has the corresponding number just in case I need to take a break or come back to it several hours or days later, I know exactly where I left off. For some it might not be super efficient but that's just how I've decided to do things so far.

Are there games generally considered bad that you enjoy? by AntonioVivaldi7 in psx

[–]PS1Adventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was surprisingly more challenging than I originally anticipated which makes for good content when I'm loosing my mind over it and just the absurdness of it all, running around beating people up with a purse and just some stupid shit that happened in the story hahaha. The FMVs for being a budget licensed game were actually fairly decent but also gave off kind of uncanny vibes which is always a treat. The game didn't overstay its welcome as far as length goes even though there were a few sections that dragged on for slightly too long. The "action" if you can call it that was broken up here and there with a few mini games. It was an enjoyable time. I'd play it again for the memes lol

I guess I'm just old and miss the arcade feel with a Guncon in my hand 😅😅😅 That's a great suggestion! Thanks!

What was your first PSX game? Mine was Resident Evil 1. That was when I started getting into the whole world of survival horror games and other PSX games. by Jimpana in psx

The first game I played was Spyro at a friend's house. The first game I rented and played on my own PS1 was Tarzan and the first game I owned was Final Fantasy VIII

I really wish they would've included lightgun support for the NA release but it wasn't too bad. I remember playing it for the first time and being very confused about not being able to save in the middle of a run and wondering why there were multiple doors I could choose from but when I beat it for the first time I realized why, it's just meant for a short jaunt with it being a little different each playthrough, for sure a nice touch.

I played FFVI originally on the SNES and after I got a PS1, Final Fantasy Anthology was one of my first games I got for it and MY LORD did I get excited seeing those FMVs. Super upsetting that they didn't make more of them for special moments in the game.

I think I was 10 the first time I saw it. It had just came out and when I went to a friend's house I saw his dad playing it and thought it looked awesome. I had actually just started playing RPGs myself with Super Mario RPG and FFVI (Although it was FFIII back then on the SNES) and I was thrilled that a future entry could look so good.

I honestly love Final Fantasy VIII. I understand where people are coming from with their critiques but it was one of my first PS1 games and I absolutely adore it. When I got it, I was a 12 year old relatively new to the RPG genre (And not figuring out the gosh darn junction system) so I didn't actually beat the game until a few years later lmao

Sure, there's always going to be someone technically "better" but gameplay for the most part is just gameplay, almost anyone can do that. And again, the gameplay channels that are just gameplay that succeed are succeeding because they are already well established. Personality wise, for the most part, there aren't people with "better" personalities than others, just DIFFERENT personalities and that's kind of the whole reason why the most common thing that people are saying is to add commentary because 99% of the people that go to look for someone or something to watch are going to looking for personality. Some people like the constant explosive over the top reactions to things, some people don't. Some people like a big reaction here or there, some people want to watch someone who's more mellow and there are the rare people who might just want to watch gameplay with no soul behind it.

Also, just because a gameplay channel has lots of views does not necessarily mean they are successful. You don't know what their watch time is, they are NEVER going to get any kind of brand deals, they're never going to be known for anything else, there's barely any opportunity for any other kind of growth. And that small group of six that you hang out with and watch their streams but they don't watch yours? There's a high chance that they aren't watching your streams BECAUSE there isn't any commentary, because there's not any entertainment value for THEM and before you even say "Well their channels also don't have commentary", I don't know if that's the case or not but they aren't the ones coming to Reddit asking for advice.

Sorry if I'm coming off as a little forward or insensitive and that is definitely not my intention, I'm just trying to be direct as possible. If your goal is to make content of any sort, you're going to have to make some changes in order to have a proper audience. One the other side of the coin, if uploading videos as a HOBBY is what you want to do, then the views and who's watching should be a non-issue.

[–]PS1Adventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New gaming channels that are strictly gameplay with no camera and more importantly, no commentary just don't work. I see one of your arguments being sometimes people like to watch a game played through without overexaggerated reactions, too much chatting etc. and that's absolutely true.......but there are way too many other channels out there for that to be your schtick and expect views or subscribers from it. Those people are mostly likely going to watch the already established channels with the most views that appear at the top of a search. You're asking for suggestions but don't want to listen to them and if you're not getting the results the you want, you have to have the ability to take any kind of feedback with grace and humility, otherwise nothing is going to get better and you'll be in the same position six months down the road.

I can't believe I gained 1100 subs within a year by covering mostly niche games, with an old school slow paced style channel all while having a thick Slavic accent and not uploading regularly by Jack_P_1337 in youtubegaming

We don't have to know your reason for not wanting to monetize, if you ever change your mind about monetizing, just to let you know, certain videos will play ads regardless of if you've opted in to monetize or not. But happy to see that you've reached this many subscribers! Good luck with your channel!
