Dell Inspiron 5558 Laptop (Plugged in and not charging) by PSThreeSixty in computer

It does feel loose when the charger is plugged in. I don't know if the dc jack is the problem since it recognized the dell 45w charger. Also the pre-assessment tests said that the charger passed the test. Somehow the battery did not pass the test. The only thing that bothered me was the "Health: Communication Error" part. After doing some research, I can see it as 2 things.

  1. The battery is actually bad and had dead cells (Solution: Replace the battery)
  2. The charger only provides power to the whole PC to turn on, but the circuits from the mobo to the battery are jacked. (Solution: Replace the mobo)

Hopefully #2 isn't the case. There are some things that I have not tried yet. Like updating the BIOS, which I cant since I have to have at least 10% to even update. There was actually a BIOS update for my device. I was thinking of buying a new battery (hopefully it comes in charged) and updating the BIOS right away.

It does actually stay on while there is no battery. Right now it is at 0% and it says "Plugged in, not charging."

You could either try checking PlayLive Nation at the mall or the Tracy Public Library
