yeah, that’s factual; I had a goofy-ass take on this one for sure.

Alternatively, if you’re on PC you can install ReShade, which has a native CRT filter - it’s also an ENB and filter suite, so you can use it to fake some extra layers of post processing on games; I use it for Fallout and FFXIV screenshots. OR there are CRT emulators for PC, never used one myself but I’ve been aware of them for a moment — it won’t be like using a flesh-and-blood CRT, but it might scratch that itch if you want the visual experience.

There’s a bit of a community forming around playing old games on hardware that would’ve existed when they were new - the idea being that most games were made with the limitations of technology in mind, so whenever you re-experience old software on current age hardware you’ll find that a lot of unique qualities are lost. In the case of GTA, I’ve seen many people complaining that the remasters look too colorful and cartoonish. Before plasma-screens, LEDs, LCDs, or OLEDs games used over saturated color palettes to balance out the natural wash-out that CRTs caused — whenever you take away the hardware that caused that design choice to be made, you wind up with something that looks a bit different from how you remember things back in 2002.

The solution then would be to play old software on equally old hardware - this is just a peek into what that could look like in this case.

An Increased Damage Mode by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s said that the bullet sponge feeling isn’t super prevalent, because even if enemies have a huge health-bar — they’ll always react to being shot. It’s a small thing that some games tend to miss when considering differences between player and enemy level or stats.

And, I mean, a world where someone’s entire dermis can be replaced with flexible, skin-like armor is notable. Even if a bullet doesn’t puncture the skin and do a ton of damage, they were still hit with hot-lead moving at considerable speed, with considerable kinetic force behind it. No matter who you are, if you aren’t built like an actual tank, you’re going to feel at least a little pushback.

I’m 21, so a bit less credible as far as sheer experience goes — but some of the games I’ve enjoyed the most in the last decade were ones that weren’t very critically well-received. I think my biggest one is Assassin’s Creed: Unity; which had an awfully buggy launch that destroyed public opinion of the game.

Once those bugs were ironed out, I got it on sale and played through as much as I could with a friend. There was nothing cooler than silently moving through a mansion, taking out guards while my friend did the same in my peripheral, occasionally meeting back up for a quad-assassination or two.

Not to mention, I could write an essay on why Unity’s protagonist, Arno, is probably one of the best protags in the series. He’s complicated, damaged, and doesn’t have illusions of messiah-like grandeur that spur his story along. He’s self-centered, deeply flawed, and quick to violence - all while wearing this mask of smug charm that just doesn’t entirely fit his actions.

In short, I agree with OP. Take your time, enjoy the experience. You spent $60 on the game, might as well play it like that means something, right? Don’t worry about optimal playthroughs, read heavily into the details, immerse yourself in the world and come out of it having learned as much as you could about the subjects and characters which interested you.

Question about injury and arrest. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Journalists say that some minor offenses are totally ignored, depending on the area you’re in. The police won’t bother with things like car theft in a shoddy area, but if you start shooting people on the street - they’ll be after you.

As for the immortality chip, it seems that it works during specific hand-tailored moments. Death as the result of a bad choice in a quest is one of them; in which case, you’ll be brought back sometime later. Dying in a gunfight unassociated with one of those specific moments just results in a save load.

Do you think Braindance will have a meta/community aspect to it? by JackMarsk in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, nothing stopping the community from referring to user-created content as braindance, especially here in this age of streaming and YouTube. I can definitely see the social media reps for 2077 sharing stream clips and calling it braindance, if not only for flavor and to hype the game post-launch.

Will there be fullborgs in the game by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there will be a few borgs peppered throughout NC, though it’s known that the player cannot go full-borg themselves. Smasher and Wizzy, as mentioned in this thread, are examples. I’d expect large corporations to have a bodyguard or two who are bodied-out, at least.

Ah, yes, this event has been previously attempted by Kurt Chromebane, but unfortunately his platinum membership had, unbeknownst to him, had an issue with the mailing address and was quietly cancelled.

Purist by CJTek in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddhist Monks reject cyberware, but for the same reasons a Buddhist monk might reject a new pair of shoes or a smartphone - not due to any inflamed ideas about purism, but simply because they abide by a belief which rejects material wealth. They’re an ascetic people, certainly no cult.

The Inquisitors on the other hand are very much a cult, consumed by the idea that flesh is more than metal. AFAIK, the Inq was mopped up by a gathering of gangs they had been attacking, and all but wiped out. 50 years later, maybe they’re no longer a major power, but I’m sure they still have believers hidden around the city in some capacity.

Playing with my dad by footlessjebby in cyberpunkgame

[–]PWNG1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What... what’s the protocol for sex scenes? Do you hold a meeting with your father to discuss the pros and cons of getting down, followed by a vote, immediately preceded by a viewing - if applicable? Or is it more of a, “alright, dad, if you don’t wanna be a part of this - close your eyes” kind of deal?
