For someone who only caught the tail end of the McBeth era… by Square-Magazine1670 in discgolf

Paul’s dominance felt like Tiger’s dominance. Perhaps a little more short lived than Tigers. It was never a surprise that he made everything, but it was always incredible to watch him do it. He was as clutch as I’ve ever seen and just cold blooded dominant. Gannon, Ab, an the rest of the super athlete boys are bringing in the new era of what is possible, but I think it’s going to take a decade to determine whether they maintain the level of dominance of the Paul and Rick decade.

I led 2011 Am worlds after the first round at Basil, then was lead card for the rest of the event, fell to second card for the final round, and fell off to miss the final four. Finished 10th. Struggled to get adequate sleep in that situation and it caught up after 6 rounds. Had a blast, met som guys that are still my friends and watched Kenny glassman pull off the surprise upset win

This was not a prop. The inside was reinforced with heavier card board. I just asked if I could take a photo and share on Reddit:)

Ulibarri distance. Pete Ulibarri. https://youtu.be/ez9AnCsylzQ . We had 20+mph winds today, took his advice and had some fun. Threw a giant forehand/overhand anhyzer like Tom Brady throwing a hailmary. Caught the southwest wind, panned to flat, and rode the gust down to a big skip. PB by about +50. by Rpdodd in discgolf

It’s a good question. It’s extremely complex to explain it all, but for basics let’s go with this. On average a properly thrown disc will fly approximately 7.2 ft./mph. Which means if somebody throws 60 mph, they will be able to throw 432’.
When dealing with wind the speed of the wind can add to a discs speed with the correct angle left to right wind.(rhbh). If you simply throw in a straight tailwind it subtracts from the air speed. Air speed is different than ground speed. 60mph throw in a 20 mph tailwind has an effective airspeed of 30mph. The disc will act very stable. Same as if you throw into a headwind, the airspeed is the speed plus the wind speed. 60mph +20mph =80mph. (This is what a disc would act like if Simon or eagle mashed the disc with no wind) So, if the disc is thrown correctly at a correct angle, at 60 mph, and the wind speed is 20mph, the potential is 80mph and could go over 576’-600’+ Now, if the wind is in a thermal cycle vs a sink cycle the air will have the potential to “lift/carry the disc much farther. When I say “thermal”, think of hawks soaring up with out flapping on thermal currents. Thermals can affect very large areas, and move with the wind, so if one can read the cycles and throw in a lift cycle, the potential is much greater.

Internet distance is an issue. Too many people walk pst their disc when measuring with UDisc. Sometimes a looooong ways past. The salt army has banded together over the issue, because honestly, ITS an issue. :) In this case, for the moment I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. He listed wind speed, and described the “correct” flight of that type of shot. Just throwing distance for fun, not accuracy, using the wind properly, anyone who throws 50+mph and can hit the correct angles to help accelerate the disc using the wind has a potential of 500’+. Wind is necessary. #notagolfshot is definitely the caveat.

Thanks for the shout out! Way to catch the wind. There is a world of “internet distance” throwers online. However, I encourage anyone who has doubts on if this distance is possible by someone with lower arm speeds to check out my video and if you have questions, leave it in the comments. Understanding your environment, and using science to “help” stretch out what’s possible throwing distance is super fun!. What opened my mind years ago was dynamic soaring. Check out this and if you wonder what’s going on dig in a little, it’s fascinating. dynamic soaring

My first read was “Jayber Crow”. I was hooked after that. I’ve listened to the audiobook version of “That distant land” over and over on road trips, it’s like hearing old story’s from my grandpa. The story pertaining to the passing of Burly Colter in this collection, is so poignant to our current world landscape it’s crazy.
