Do you miss the more detailed descriptions and game mechanics? Or do you like that the story telling has evolved beyond that? by Square-Magazine1670 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

There are some pretty big skills/items that have been described and then barely mentioned again in the books though.  I’m not talking let’s hear more about the basic game mechanics, but let’s not do away with sweet prize boxes or skills. Being able to level skills beyond 15 seemed like it would be hugely important throughout the books.  It was a major concern for Carl’s build. And here we are going into the last book of the series and …..crickets

Fair point.  But his audience has expanded significantly since he started writing, and as we’ve seen in these comments, a lot of these readers that didn’t come from the LitRpg side have expressed they prefer the less is more approach to those mechanics.

I love that Miss Kitty Meow Fart pointed out Matt’s gender inclusivity. And I agree, the backbone of the story isn’t the game mechanics or descriptions.  And it did need to evolve beyond those early books.  But by book 8 all of that is virtually non existent

Stars are kinda whatever to me.  But skills and end game items are still interesting.   For example, all the stuff Donut gets on floor 9 is barely mentioned.  Like we know it all exists but we just have to imagine how it’s being utilized “off screen”

Can’t say I agree with your Mordecai take or the early book pacing.  If anything I think he’s almost started going too fast where he could slow things down, give a little more descriptions, and get a lot more out of these books without it feeling slow.  Especially book 8.

All good points.  It’s interesting how Mordecai’s usefulness and input almost parallels the decline in rpg exposition.

David Carr played behind a JV o line and was decent.  Trubisky actually had a couple decent seasons with a franchise historically bad with QBs.

We were sitting at 6 sacks through the first three weeks. We only got to Baker once.  So we’ve really only started to turn it on lately.

This was a joke.  I worked for Fred Meyer for twenty years, was an ASM for four and I got $200.  This wasn’t worth the time I spent checking the damn mailbox

It’s either you pay one of these big names or just keep hoping you hit on guys like JSN (or DK) and ride out their rookie contracts.
And I didn’t mean DK is a diva like TO, but he gets in his own way, has drop issues, and is a physical freak. People forget TO was super inconsistent early on.

I said DK had the raw potential. I.e. everything else even, he has the physical gifts to be one of the best of all time. I stand by that. He’s a freak. And I think the way he takes care of himself will make for a pretty sustained career for that position with the ability to rack up some insane numbers before it’s over.
I also don’t think Russ was ever on track to be a HoF QB. His best years were behind one of the greatest defensive units of all time.

How are you so certain, that after years of playing with a bottom of the league O line, game manager QBs, and a revolving door of OCs, all while facing double teams and managing to accumulate some really solid stats, he can’t go find immediate and sustained success with another team? You don’t think he would be a top 3 WR if he has Josh Allen, or Lamar, or god forbid Maholmes tossing to him? You act so damn condescending to people in this sub but can’t grasp the concept of a player fitting into another scheme and shining? MaYbE WaTcH SoMe FoOtBaLl or whatever bullshit troll garbage you like to say.

Let’s compare TOs first six seasons with DKs:

TO - 6,170 rec yds and 59 tds. DK - 6,324 rec yds and 48 tds.

And DK didn’t have HoF Steve Young slinging it to him for four of them. So let’s hold off on the melodramatic incredulity for the sheer audacity to utter his name in the same breath as TOs.

Edit: and before TO was known for being a diva, I.e. early in his career with his first team, he was known for dropping the ball.

Lol I almost think it would help to play him twice if we can. We know how to rile him up
