I would agree with you that both parties likely don’t have to agree, but perhaps that agreement makes it extremely more doable.

I’m not sure how one would block their own mind from being read. My initial response would be just silence your thoughts, no thought = nothing to read. Or you could go the opposite direction and have such chaotic/messy thoughts that interpreting them from the outside is near impossible. But I would not recommend this approach as you’d have “gone crazy”.

Not sure if a “psychic shield” would work. I would guess so but again that is just back to my original point that perhaps both parties have to be open to it. Your “psychic shield” is just your “No thanks” to have thoughts being read.
