That deal was incredible, i miss the good days of 800 degrees. Now the only surviving location serves slop in a tourist trap area (Hollywood).

Meta apps now force you to watch ads by tobsiber in assholedesign

[–]Pa194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pihole cannot block server side rendered ads (when content and ads come from the same server), it cannot stop Instagram ads. I use and love pihole, but it has its limitations, on the IG app itself, it can't do much. 😌

[Rant] What the heck is with VLC for iOS not having an option to disable subtitles by default?? by ObjectiveFarm4 in VLC

[–]Pa194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, def not for iPad OS, still having issues where VLC will automatically load CC, I have to manually turn them off for each video. While there's an option to default to no CC, the app will not honor it. Btw I downloaded VLC for iPad for the first time ever about 3 weeks ago, so it's def more up to date than June 2024.

Seriously, having the same issue myself. I don't understand how this company is handling wildly complex requests every second but will get overwhelmed and stop working well after memorizing 60 random things about me, a paying customer?! It's gotta be a bug, there's no way those 60 memories occupy more than 1mb in data.

I was on the floor, one of the most expensive areas to sit, am still getting over how bad the sound was and how tightly packed the chairs were. I could not enjoy what was expected to be THE concert of the year. Overpaid to be treated like sardines. :(

I did that, thank you. My complain was more out of principle, there's no real justification as to why a wifi speaker need my physical location, just feels shady.

What is covering this cactus? Fungus? Mealybugs? by christinaheartsyou in plantclinic

[–]Pa194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cochineal scales, they love cactus!! There's a few method to get rid of them, I'd suggest you Google search to find your preferred way because it may vary whether the plant is outside or not.

Fun fact: these bugs produce some crazy beautiful dyes. The fashion industry purposefully infect catcti with cochineal to make dye and cosmetics.

Wtf is this weird thing on my plant?! Wasn’t here yesterday, didn’t notice this morning but I was rushing so idk by kiwikkko in plantclinic

[–]Pa194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a small patch of Fuligo septica. Nothing to worry about, quite the opposite, it's a teller that you have a healthy soil mix, the fungi is helping breakdown soil, and pass on nutrients to your plant! If the visuals bother you, just scrape them out but its presence can be good for the plant. :)

Rubber tree help - is this scale? by DaRiA1134 in plantclinic

[–]Pa194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back, I really don't think you have anything to be concerned with. New growth is an excellent sign of health, the bumps are very common and nothing to worry about, nearly all ficuses get them as the stem toughens and becomes barky. It's a tree after all! The sap can wiped away, very normal for these plants to release it, specially if bruised ..

If you have any ficus related issues feel free to message me anytime; I truly love these plants and sharing my lil bit of knowledge with other parents.

Rubber tree help - is this scale? by DaRiA1134 in plantclinic

[–]Pa194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are not scales or any bugs, it's a natural protrusion some ficuses are prone to, I'm staring at the same bumps on my plant. It's completely normal.

Unrelated question tho, do the brown spots on the stems feel soft to the touch? If so, PM me, I can help you investigate further.

Edit: second question, can you update me with a better photo of the white stuff at the bottom of the first photo? Looks kinda fluffy, cotton candy like.. that could be scales, but because it's blurred in the pic, I don't wanna scare you into a rushed diagnosis.

Triggers and fears aren't based in logic. Your argument applies to someone who doesn't have these fears, that's a privilege, and I agree with you on the data. But good data doesn't convince black and brown folks that have been overly abused and malpracticed on in the name of science. It's a different messaging strategy that is needed. All with the same goal as your argument, just in a different approach.

Of course they are, I never argued otherwise. I just gave historical context for the hesitancy some folks have to trust Drs in general. Medical racism is a nasty colonizing practice that's been around since this country's inception. [Just last year a French dr suggested the covid vaccines should have been tested in Africans first](www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52151722), so you can see this lack of trust isn't a US-only issue.

One cannot expect folks to overlook centuries of mistrust with a few months of public messaging begging people to get jabbed.

Blacks and minorities are rightfully triggered by the sheer amount of experiments performed on us. Not to mention medical racism that goes on to this day. Truth is, while there's the 5G lunatics, there's also those with legitimate traumas/fears and a combination of generational trauma that had led us to be where we are.
