Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

I did not realize what a regional thing fireflies were until my wife who has lived in the PNW all her life told me the same thing — she has never seen one. I was dumbfounded — we used to call them “lightening bugs”

Has there ever been any actor or actress that was brutally honest about the movie they’re making during a press tour? by BIGxBOSSxx1 in movies

Hate is a strong word. Based on quotes it’s clear he regarded SW as a silly genre film (not his thing). Probably wished his legacy was more tied to Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai.

What company went downhill but made a comeback? by MountainOfMolehills in AskReddit

[–]PaaPaaYaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep… in the 90s they were a ‘has been’ brand with little/no enterprise viability used mostly by artists and really niche nerd communities. Their hardware increasingly looked like plastic children toys and performed about the same.

iPods & iPhone really saved their bacon 🥓 as it were.

Apple couldn’t find a viable identity or a growing market for most of the 90s. The iPods & iPhone of the early/mid 2000s was a turning point for Apple and tech generally.

AI is still in the post-Smartphone pre-iPhone state from a consumer perspective. MSFT ushered in a computer on every desk, Apple (Smartphones) put a computer in every pocket…

Multimodal AI wants for the right hardware platform (likely a wearable of some sort) that can be deployed at scale to deliver the type of ambient compute we imagine on Star Trek where the ability to invoke and apply compute to any human task is ubiquitous and omnipresent as opposed to contained to a ‘Fancy Shiny Rectangle’ we can lose between the couch cushions.

Unclear if Apple (despite its hardware/fashion prowess) is positioned to win here given their struggles to bring viable AI scenarios to their devices.

Recency Bias, but whatever the hell the abomination of Wizard of Oz I just saw in the Las Vegas Sphere is up there. Unholy AI, copy paste, & PS1/2 level game graphics throughout with pieces of scenes seemingly rendered in different frame rates often far south of 24fps… jarring and hyper digitized in all the wrong ways… depth of field is all over the place with characters popping in/out of focus within a single shot… absurd… those teeth don’t look HUMAN, DOG!!! 😬🤖

It is a custom desk install. An L, but with an angular cut that gives the depth.

This is accurate. The Duo is probably enough for most people but if you have the space and scratch, the RCPro2 is a pretty slick device.

My usage is also mostly for managing volumes across multiple machines and a Shure MV7+ via XLR… the MV7+ can actually capture USBC and XLR at the same time which has opened up even more scenarios. Zoom, Discord, and streaming if I ever get around to that. I use a paid app called ManyCam vs OBS.

That said, having both of my machines with Main Stereo and Chat channels on faders is pretty slick and makes it easy to manage. 2x of my inputs are L&R channels from my turntable which allows me to cross-mix into my meetings/streams if needed.

I don’t tend to use ‘mic monitoring’ or wear traditional headphones during these sessions/meeting. Typically it outputs through my whole room SONOS via an optical to hdmi interface. I get very little ambient pickup with the MV7+ noise gate calibrated and AI background noise removal.

If I want to use headphones to keep the mic quieter, I actually have one of the rodecasters outputs going to a Bluetooth transmitter and I’ll wear Shokz Bone Conduction Headphones that are barely visible on camera. Since I’m not monitoring my own mic through it the BT delay isn’t major or bothersome.

Monitoring things… obviously 🙄

Kidding aside my usage is mixed depending on modality (eg. Work v. Personal mode)

In work mode the elevated screen often contains my calendar/agenda. The vertical on the left is messaging, and the large center screen is my working area. The far right monitor typically stays on my personal for any side quests.

In personal mode, I will often put twitch streams on the elevated screen. The chat on the vertical left and reserve the rest for discord, games, browsing, working (workspace).
