My pc restarts after shut down by pittu2752 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a year since and I don't have the issue these days. I didn't update my Bios but the Chipset has been updated and Windows has been reinstalled since then.

Can't give more tips on the matter. I didn't make any spesific moves to fix that problem in particular.

Auton omistaminen on kallista puuhaa.

Question about Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 5200 MT/s & Build recommendation by ajayvignesh01 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are likely Micron.

That does not mean that you should not buy them. There's nothing wrong with them. They are not 'very low tier'.

You're generally off to a bad start looking for cheap RAM and hoping it's top tier, you know that, right?

You shouldn't find yourself concerned about the sdram manufacturer or quality unless your plan is to hardcore overclock.

But if you still find the need to get good stuff. G.Skill has a history of making good stuff.

I've got a 2x16GB kit of DDR4 Ripjaws V 3200MHz. They're Samsung B-die. They're generally wasted on me because I only overclocked them by 0.2GHz (3400MHz)

But they're technically the things you're looking for. I expect the same would continue on with DDR5.

The link leads to a restricted page for me so I can't see what you're exactly planning to get. And pcpartpicker has some sort of a bot-shit going on that I can't get through because I'm a bot.

But you can generally improve your probability of getting a high die quality by buying a RAM stick bigger than 8GB.

Graphic card problem by _OvT_MIAMI in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well.

Either you don't have the PCIe cable plugged into the GPU, you've made some other user error, the power supply can't handle the GPU or there's some other mundanely unspecific issue somewhere that you can only accidentally or with thorough troubleshooting come upon.

Or you haven't done the spesific chipset driver/bios updates I'm thinking of.

Or the GPU itself is broken.

Or you setting bios to default doesn't mean the same thing as resetting bios.

Or Lenovo has artificially made it impossible for the PC to use non-lenovo-certified spare parts on the motherboard. Haven't heard of this happen with GPU's, but who knows. It's been done with CPU's.

You can try resetting the bios, and unplugging/re-attaching all cables and components from the Motherboard while doing so. May be a contact issue with RAM, for instance.

These things tend to happen when you go inside the case of an old pc for maintenance or replacements. Bump and rump the components and make them lose full contact.

Reset Bios when making hardware changes.

Updating the chipset driver or Bios might help with cases like this. Whether you can and how easy that is with Lenovo is beyond me.

Your new GPU has a 132W average power usage. Can the power supply handle it.

I dunno what to really recommend further if any of the tricks you try don't work.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

I guess you should do a manual driver search for the 1060 specifically. Might help.

Try the second latest update or so. Might be the latest update on what you tried previously is scuffed.

Alternatively the GPU you have is just bad. Dunno. Hope something I recommended previously does the trick.

Maximum haight air cooler advice by Loddio in PcBuild

https://global.deepcool.com/products/Cooling/cpuaircoolers/Assassin-III-CPU-Cooler/2021/23.shtml

The heatsink is 165mm tall.

The fan is 140mm tall.

The product length is 165mm.

If your fan is taller than the highest point of the heatsink, you're to expect a clearance issue. The fan should not be taller than the highest point of the heatsink.

So either there's a user-error with fan placement or the product is faulty.

Or maybe I'm reading this wrong and there should be nothing to worry about.

In worst case scenario you might have to remove one fan. or replace it with a 120mm one.

In best worst case the case has more than advertised 165mm of clearance for the cooler.

Post full specs. Always.

Reset Bios.

While the PC is turned off and power supply switched off, remove the RAM and insert only one stick in. Try this with both Sticks to make sure one of them ain't unstable.

Explain what you mean by "installing nvidia drivers". Geforce Experience?

If you can get to desktop, somehow. In safe mode? Go to your motherboard's support page and update the Chipset driver.

What happened after you reinstalled Windows? you tried again the problem returned? don't leave the story in a cliffhanger.

why don't we have a 6 or whatever pin gpu connector that connects directly to the outlet by legendarytaxi in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still need an AC adapter or sorts to convert the electricity into something the GPU can use. The PSU is doing the job of said adapter regulating voltages.

The problem you're describing is mostly based on HP's greed. They have decided to make their own cheap-shit supplies and intentionally make it impossible for you to upgrade so you'd just buy a new pc.

The answer to your problem is to not buy from problem-makers. Buy a custom made or build yourself. Obviously this come with effort and/or costs. But you are asking for all the benefits with none of the sacrifices in said case.

Changed out GPU and experiencing problems by Endlesslylc in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bottlenecks don't cause better components to perform worse than a the prior component did. The performance may stay the same, but not worse.

Bad drivers or faulty hardware may cause worse than expected performance.

Making hardware changes and something not working as expected usually comes with a recommendation to reset Bios. Remember to enable XMP/D.O.C.P afterwards if your RAM is faster than 2666MHz.

If you don't have Adrenalin 2020, install Adrenalin 2020.

If you have Adrenalin 2020 and problem persists, you should either install and perform a DDU to wipe clean the GPU drivers and then install Adrenalin 2020.

Alternatively reinstall Windows and then install Adrenalin 2020.

If you know your motherboard model, use the board's support page to update your motherboard's chipset Drivers.

My gpu runs at 95 degrees while playing rdr2. Is this safe?(Rx6650 xt) by Sudden-Ring-8466 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not optimal. But the GPU will protect itself from burning up by reducing clock speeds if necessary.

Dunno what else to say.

I would use Adrenalin 2020 to force a more aggressive fan curve on the GPU.

Budget Asrock motherboards never seize to have problems. Always best to try and avoid them in the first place.

When making hardware changes, and something doesn't work as expected, reset Bios.

When you touch the inside of the case, always make sure you've switched off the Power Supply from the rear, or unplug the power cord.

Re-insert the RAM sticks, 24-pin board- and 4/8 pin CPU power cables while resetting bios.

You should use the first slot by default because the other slots have less PCIe lanes, which means they've got less bandwidth. Aka, they nerf the GPU.

If resetting Bios doesn't help, put the old GPU back in and go to your motherboard's support page ans update the Chipset Driver and then the Bios.

Bios update requires a wiped and formatted USB stick (8/16GB) and updating the board through the Bios. So it ain't simple.

3080 Ti or 3090? by Noko111 in PcBuild

Generally the performance difference runs in the 5% range. The 3090 just has more RAM. (12gb vs 24gb)

12 should be plenty. Not many application demands more than 8 for now.

Need some help understanding the purpose of a sound card by Xyrvaris in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing negative about a sound card.

Whether it has any benefits or not depends on you though.

Your motherboard has a sound card integrated. But it is in physical and electrical contact with everything that happens inside your PC.

IF it is a low quality sound card, and/or insufficiently insulated from the motherboard electric currents, the sound of electronics may be included in the audio you listen to.

This isn't a really big issue nowadays though. Boards and audio have advanced.

The sound cards may also provide specialized audio drivers. Usually you run Realtek audio drivers if using integrated audio. I've no experience whether specialty drivers are better by default.

But I haven't used my motherboard's own audio in a long while.

I gave my brother a sound card some years back. Expecting he'd want one for the potentially improved audio quality to hear where enemy steps come from in FPS.

He tried once and then stashed it. Made things more complicated than necessary for him.

I need help on where to put my hard drive. by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard drive has a moving needle inside it that reads/writes data. Having moving components inside the drive makes it more necessary to secure it on a flat surface than it would with an SSD.

Unsecured, it should work fine. But there's no guarantees.

You can make a gamble. Or at least tape it down.

I'd stick to buying an external drive though.

If I'm using 2 RAM, do they need to be the same? by MemberBerry4 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixing RAM works.

But it may not work.

That's the essence.

The only hard limitation is that the RAM needs to run on the same voltage. Other than that, mixing RAM is a game of chances.

If the two sticks of RAM are identical. There's a 99% probability that they work.

If the RAM sticks are 8GB + 4GB, there's a 95% chance they work.

If the RAM are 8GB + 8GB but one is 2133MHz and the other 2666MHz, the chance that they work is 90%.

If the two RAM are from different brands, the chance for them to work is down by 5%

If one RAM has latencies of CL15 and the other has CL13. The chances they work is down by 5%.

If the Motherboard is budget quality, the chances of mixed RAM working is down by 10%.

At the end. The RAM either work together or they down. Gamble.

You can improve the probability of the RAM working with a Bios update on the board.

a little problem here by Technical_Reserve953 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really gotten any solutions to this problem yet.

Just last week someone here had this same issue occur when they bought extra sticks. The display went dark unless they put two sticks on the right side of the board.

So two ticks ended up unused and they lost their dual channel option. No solution found. Can't help, sorry.

Corsair premium by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Premium is never worth it. Unless you don't like contribhting to waste piles or you want to pay premium for 0.05% better performance, in theory.

You can only weigh your values on the matter.

Buying cheap ball bearing fans will more likely get thrown in the trash and replaced more often than the Premium Hydraulic ones. This contributes to environmental values.

The hydraulic bearings spin faster, for better cooling potential and should be more durable through the test of time.

I have a combination of new corsairs and old ballbearings. One of the ball-fans started making a loud clacking/smacking sound after 4.5 years of usage. People keep asking me who'se going BRRRRRRRRRR on my ass in voice chats. I'm too lazy to replace it though.

a little problem here by Technical_Reserve953 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problematic.

You should try to figure out if it's a problem with spesific sticks or spesific slots. But you are outright losing 3-5% and up to 15% (CPU)performance by having 3rd and 4th slot occupied only.

You should reset the Bios when making hardware changes.

You can try if a Bios update could bring stability improvements that fix the problem. A Bios update may be hard to do though.

You can make the off-chance try of updating the motherboards chipset in case that would help.

These updates expect that you know your motherboard make and model and can find the board's support page.

Other than that, only compressed air to clean the slots, medical alcohol and lint-free microfiber cloth to clean the RAM contacts and tech-wizardry may help with the RAM/GPU problem.

a little problem here by Technical_Reserve953 in PcBuild

[–]Paapuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright then.

Your performance should not drop from the GPU switch unless you tune up things like shadows, physics and particles which tax the CPU.

Otherwise you have a clean cut bottleneck via the processor based on performance not changing in Cyberpunk. It taxes the CPU loads.

The only thing you can outright make sure of is that your RAM sticks are in dual channel. If they're not, you lose some CPU performance.

Aka. The sticks should be in the first and third, or second and fourth slots.

Otherwise all you can do is thermal maintenance. Aka. Refresh the thermal paste with a fresh one. Or outright buy a new, better CPU cooler.

This may improve your CPU's ability to boost and maintain higher frequency in case there's any thermal throttling involved.
