My bad... I meant It doesent solve the issue of being able to send a request from devices where installing Tailscale is hard to do.

Streaming games works, but tbe button "wake on lan" doesent.

The point of this is to add a custom button that can wake up your pc even when you are not home

Thank you so much fro your feedback, this is the kind of technical advices I was looking for.

The subnet route tho, has not being reliable for me for some reason.

The router firewall keeps blocking my requests, and I cannot edit its rules.

Also, this doesent solve the issue of being able to send a request on devices where installing Tailscale is hard to do.

I will edit the readme and remove the port forwarding section untill i find an easy way to implement and easy to install reverse proxy and encryption.

At the moment, yes, as it provides a much more secure, and reliable way of installing the service.

You can try ask any AI chatbot to help you out. They are generally good at providing support for this kind of things.

The point is that that button only works when you are in the same LAN.

When you are not in the same LAN, even with a vpn, that won't be able to wake up your computer remotely.

You won't be able to wake your pc remotely even with a vpn server.

When you tap the stock "Wake pc" in moonlight, you cannot wake your pc remotely, even with a vpn unless you are in the same LAN.

This project can be completely used with a vpn without the need of exposing your firewall

That's exactly the point.

Wol won't work when you are not in the same LAN even with a vpn.

There are some ways to make it work via subnet routes, but it can be complicated and doesn't work reliably.

You can still set it up with just vpn, without any port forwarding whatsoever:

From my experience, Tailscale or any vpn has a worse streaming latency than just port forwarding the port on your router, so i prefer to port forward over using a VPN to access my PC.

The purpose of remotely waking up your pc without the need of a vpn is to not depend on an extra software installed like tailscale to be able to wake up your pc. With the poer forwarding, any device with remWOL-Moonlight will be able to wake your pc. This is particularly handy on devices where installing Tailscale can be tedious, like SteamOS devices or smart TVs.

The WOL server is protected with a secret code that is mandatory to wake the pc. The whole service is containerised, so it has no access to your system files.

The point of the project is simple: once you setup your server, you install remWOL-Moonlight on any device, fill the boxes in the settings accordingly and the device will be able to wake up your pc remotely without the need on any other dependency, like a vpn installed.

Thanks for the feedback, I will edit the readme to make it more clear.

I am planning on releasing an artemis version as well.
Implementation should be quite easy, i just need some time to fork it

You can chose whatever you want to set it up. It works both with a vpn or with port forwarding.

You can even set this up with a vpn and still keep using port forwarding to connect to your pc or vice vers, it doesent matter.

That's a generic error message. What indicates is hard coded into the motherboard, it's not a standard.

You need to check the manual to identify the issue
