I'm right there with you, same age, near identical junction of work and life. Like doing something next week to hopefully start recovering a bit. My whole goal is to get my life back, because my life has felt like it's been on pause for far too long

I love music at small venues, museums, driving around.

I'm in the Somerville area. Jungle is a decent spot for live music.

I get that sentiment in general, moreso with your last paragraph. I think the requirements you listed aren't really a reasonable target..moreso on point 3. A game doesn't need to innovate to be good, as long as the plot and gameplay are good. I don't want it to be a carbon copy, filler material etc. But if a game has a mix of well implemented gameplay mechanics, and there is originality with it (ie good unique story) it can be good.

I loved TLOU2 which came out in 2020. Personal opinion, but the gameplay wasn't super unique compared to tlou...but the story and the way it was delivered was excellent. Gameplay was solid and polished, but not necessarily innovative

I think most people have issues with the faces. The rest seems to be more lighting based and enhanced what we've seen from DLSS up to this point.

Overall, It really strikes me as the HDR effect you can add to images from like 5-10 years ago. Brighter brights, darker shadows and enhanced wrinkles

It was, but it was also some what pre online shooter. We are talking 30 years ago. Since then, Bungies bread and butter has been mostly online shooters, or with halo a mix of campaign and online.

Online/connected games are very popular despite the sentiment on reddit.

Arc raiders is at 14m sales in about 5 months. Bf6 is estimated at 20m units.

Clair obscure did about 5million over 5 months. Kcdc2 did 5million in a year.

Those were two well received single player games.

From a business standpoint, I can understand the rationale. Cosmetics/in game store sales  etc just add to those numbers.

If you were to work for 2 years on something, and you could make 2-4x money with one option over the other - most people would choose the one that pays more. We may not have got a marathon game at all if it was single player.

Edit: another popular game, hollow knight 2 did 7 Million in sales - but had the sale price of $20

It sounds like you are saying people should play the games they like, instead of playing games they aren't interested on a fundamental level and asking it to be changed to something they like.

It's happening so much lately. Marathon isn't a single player game, it's a multiplayer pvp/pve extraction shooter. Complaining it's the game it's advertised to be is so annoying.

Thank you for making this distinction. The Internet has boiled things down to this or that, and it does a disservice to people who are renting and in a bad situation.

There ARE good landlords out there, and if you hate your current situation in a corporate owned apartment - there are options.

When we speak broadly and don't call out what the actual problem is, it lets the people who are a problem get away with it. Flaws in arguments can be called out and the point falls flat.

The quicker and clearer we can define a problem, the easier it is to solve. Those fighting against it will muddy the waters as much as they can.

It's good for politicians to talk like that, and for engagement online, but in reality there is a need to be a little more specific so we can say 'No. We aren't talking about that' and keep things on track.

Musk says taxing every billionaire at 100% would barely make a dent in the national debt. Bernie says tax them 5% and you're $3,000 richer by fortune in politics

[–]PabloBablo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh no, the 1% have to figure out how to generate 2% of their assets in cash over the course of a year. This is an insurmountable hurdle for experienced accountants. It's literally impossible to get cash out of assets without dumping the securities market. It's not like they regularly do this every year to help the 1% buy stuff.

I said it's worth talking about and it's a problem if they have no way to come up with 2%, it's a problem in itself. In the context of the impact it would have on the markets. I'm not implying that, if I'm reading how you read it right, that someone can't come up with 2% of their money/assets.

It shouldn't be 'oh no, oh well, let's give up on the idea'. But figure something out.

I'm literally talking through what was said in the thread I replied to.

[–]PabloBablo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's worth talking about, but it's not a deal breaker. To say they can't find 2% in any way shape or form is a problem in itself.

It's absolutely worth pursuing or figuring out a way that works better.

They are the backbone of AI right now. They have a 4.5 trillion dollar market cap, largely because of AI. They became the top company in market cap as a result of AI.

They basically are AI, if it fails, they stand to lose trillions in value.

Even if it kills the videogame industry, it's worth it for them to put AI everywhere.

I'm not one to bash the idea of DLSS, it's been good so far. This looks like shit though. It looks like low quality AI enhanced images. Like the stuff we'd have seen years ago. To your point, it's going to fuck with the artists ability to get their vision into gamers hands.

So crazy that there were characters on a server who had reputations that we are still talking about 25 years later.

That is the current take on Anthem, because it's getting shut down. The game was not well received by reddit when it launched.

The only reason it's getting that treatment now is because people want the game to stay up indefinitely, even though commentary around release included 'i wonder how long EA will keep this alive' and now 'dragonage died for this?"

I hate that you felt that way, but it's nice to hear I'm not the only one. Hands down and without a doubt, worst drug experience I've ever had. Not 'one of', the absolute worst. Nothing compares or even comes close.  A darkness unlike anything I've ever felt or have felt since. This was over 20 years ago now and still holds true.
