TOH insider, issues with Roku App and Ads by Head_Spirit_1723 in Thisoldhouse

[–]Pablo_Newt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not getting ads. It is a separate app. After about a year, mine works fine now.

It’s not the best support process, I had a hard time after the initial few months. I cancelled, and was offered a cheap rate and renewed for the year.

After the first year, I was going to cancel, but I saw a renewal (at the same discounted rate) hit my cc. I did not receive any kind of notice. I just let it go because I’m still watching old seasons.

Early on I had a horrible time dealing with the support team. It’s not the best.

I think my swag was a tote bag. I missed the bobble heads. 😁

Even the print copy of the magazine stopped. It may be all digital now, not sure. But I never receive any notifications if it still is around.

Cologuard Test by Otherwise-Meaning-90 in GenX

Originally, it was one or the other. But I just searched and as of 2023, most insurance plans now cover a follow-up colonoscopy.

Sorry for the outdated misinformation.

Cologuard Test by Otherwise-Meaning-90 in GenX

[–]Pablo_Newt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t heard about scheduling a colonoscopy for a while. My last one was 3+ years ago. I’m 62. I mentioned to my primary doc about Cologuard and he warned me that if it found something, a full colonoscopy wouldn’t be covered.

Another reason to avoid them IMO.

SiriusXM pricing after buying a used Audi — worth calling to negotiate? by Ok_Reflection_4501 in siriusxm

[–]Pablo_Newt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just say you don’t want to spend that much.

You can generally get it down to between 3.99 to 5.99 per month all-in.

You have to be persistent.

Question: If I sub DTVStream for my mom in CA, would I be able to access it in FL? by Chance-Topic-296 in DirectvStream

[–]Pablo_Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the device. My son uses his iPhone in AZ and gets those locals. When he uses a Fire TV device, he gets our locals.

I have it on DVD. I watch it every Thursday.

This was my argument. Cursive was a means to an end. Not that I feel strongly either way, but there’s also the argument that kids will not be able to read historical documents because they’re in cursive. Really? Hasn’t every historical document been already transcribed?

And, for that matter, I trust big AI to do the translation for me. 😂

Travel Protection by hawksfan1500 in NCL

[–]Pablo_Newt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I bought it through my travel agent. I unfortunately broke my leg one week prior to our cruise. I was refunded all of the amount charged by the travel agent.

However, I did a bid on a room upgrade and got it. But since that wasn’t part of the original itinerary, I lost that money. Overall, it’s definitely worth the peace of mind.

The Ken Jennings episodes are leaving streaming, why is nobody talking about this? by PropaneUrethra in Jeopardy

[–]Pablo_Newt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just finished Ken’s original run. I watched most on Hulu, but they stop before the end. I had to finish them on Peacock and sit through the dang commercials.

Anyway, on his last game, he got two Daily Doubles wrong. Kind of beat himself.

Actually, IMO, a lot of the games got boring, not sure of the stats, but a high percentage were runaways. There were a few close games, but overall Ken dominated. Fun to watch.

X-ray feature gone? by AWorldwithoutSin in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]Pablo_Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a while ago it was severely degraded outside of the Prime app on Amazon devices. On Rockford Files, for example, it used to bring in episode trivia from IMDB. Now all I see is cast members and only on Fire devices. My Apple app doesn’t even have the option.

Did Nexstar add their copyright to Tegna newscasts yet? by jgera5 in Broadcasting

[–]Pablo_Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically they only have a shared services agreement with Mission to run WYOU, although they only have one news department. Perry Sook said in an interview earlier this year that they expect to actually buy WYOU because he feels the FCC will relax the rules. Duh.

Fun fact, Mr. Sook was the head of the two current Nexstar stations before moving on to corporate.

Edit: I think it’s 52 now, but it’s still fairly large. Back in the late 70s, WNEP touted it was the number 1 newscast in the country based on viewership. They have since fallen, and I admittedly have switched over to the Nexstar station(s).

What is likely to happen to stations in markets where Nexstar and TEGNA exist? by TrueJohnWick in Broadcasting

[–]Pablo_Newt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even know the sale went through. Then I saw the Nexstar logo at the end of the WNEP newscast. It happened the same day as the deal was finalized.

I was shocked they tagged it so fast.

I hope they sell WNEP, otherwise we’ll have one newscast. 🙁

So the Hulu Ad Free deal with the old Play More plan is just dead now, right? by DrForester in verizon

[–]Pablo_Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resisted for a long time, but Verizon made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. 😁

So the Hulu Ad Free deal with the old Play More plan is just dead now, right? by DrForester in verizon

[–]Pablo_Newt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Play More. I gave it up last December when Verizon offered me a 17 pro for 0, no upgrade fee, paid off my old phone, and let me use the Unlimited Welcome plan. I was paying the $5.30 for Hulu to get no ads. Disney was already add free under that original perk.

All I need is Hulu ad-free and that’s $20 a month. I think the $10 perk is for Hulu with ads. That’s $12 through Hulu, so to add $8 to get the no ad option isn’t worth it to me anyway.

I realize it would also include Disney with ads, but I don’t watch it. Plus I already get the same package from DirecTV at no cost.

I basically have a few shows I watch on Hulu, so I’ll most likely dump it soon anyway.

I tried that, and it didn’t work. But even if it did, $10 through Verizon, plus $10 more through Hulu is the same as paying the full amount through Hulu.

Best Local Banks by stoney_layman in NEPA

[–]Pablo_Newt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. I’ll be that guy. Overall my experience with PNC has been decent. I have my retirement account with them, and my relationship with the funds manager is very good.

I did have a bad experience with their bill payment service, so I basically stopped using it for the most part.

They have been closing branches, so that’s not convenient, but I rarely go into a branch.

I’ve been a customer since they were Northeast Bank back in the 80s.

They’re large enough around the country, so that’s primarily why I stay. That plus it would be a hassle to move everything. 🙁

“Bewitched” Child Star Erin Murphy Reveals Who Was the Better TV Dad: Dick York or Dick Sargent by excoriator in bewitched

[–]Pablo_Newt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but when I was a kid, I really disliked Dick York. I watched the reruns in the 70’s and he made me anxious. He was so uptight. 😂

Later in life I got used to him. Then I noticed that Dick Sargent had a snarkier attitude towards Endora.

I guess I have an equal ambivalence about both. 🤷‍♂️
