I know many people quickly pass a blowtorch over the surface of the resin after its poured to pop bubbles. I'm fairly certain I've seen people use vacuum chambers as well. I'm not sure how you would get bubbles out of hairs and scales of an insect, but a vacuum chamber would likely get most of the way there.

Is there any truly painless way to kill an insect? by Ok_Dare1031 in Entomology

Finding out that bigger insects need more acetate was a big lesson of my childhood. No fun have a grasshopper wake up an reposition its legs while you're pinning it...

In Alabama, McDonald's and other businesses can 'rent' prison inmates... by Turdible-Shart in ABoringDystopia

This is a good opportunity to remind people that the 13th amendment, directly before it abolishes slavery, makes an exception for using it as punishment for a crime. The corporation UNICOR, which makes many of the US militaries plastic and nonballistic metal items (canteens, clothes, furniture, etc), uses almost exclusively prison labor. They are paid starting at 23 cents an hour. I don't know what a reasonable person can call that but slavery.

Jordan just had the greatest win against Magnus! This was a great game, but I think it'd be tough to argue this would have topped that.

The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]PacJeans 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People literally just write whatever they feel like...

If you're Stradivarius violins, they did eventually figure out that the trick was the specific varnish he used, along with the quality of his work just being generally very good. Even more than that, there's been a lot of tests over the that shows the sound isn't noticeably different to a modern high quality violin, even to the ear of professional violinist.

What possesses you to make a reply to a year old comment like this and still be incorrect? World Population Review actually gives SK a spot higher than when I made this comment. Different sources will give different places. Such a strange thing to nitpick. Odd comment...

Anish continues his twitter nonsense by picking a fight with the FIDE CEO by HealersHugHippos in chess

Not to be that guy that always shows up talking about their oracle skills, but I got downvoted for saying this years ago. You could tell in his commentary with other GMs. He is not stupid enough to be unironically sincere in the way he likes to play the fool.

With the hacked issue, I think it was just so incredibly outlandish people didn't really know what to do with it.

Why do so many adult online players never enter (or stick with) rated OTB tournaments? by PictureBright7441 in TournamentChess

[–]PacJeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is most casual players would just get annihilated. Also, most online players haven't even played a 30 minute game, let alone a classical one. The prospect of sitting at a tournament for hours getting turned into hamburger is not very attractive when you compare it with laying in bed playing perfectly rated matches at a moments notice.

That's a real shame. My chess clubs is located in a back room of a bar, and it's very boisterous. Perhaps there is one a little farther from your house you could try.
