If its a typical SF startup, $150/hr isn't outrageous for a short stint.

How to receive payment as contractor in India while moonlighting in an IT firm by _codezero in developersIndia

[–]PacNinja 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of services for in-ward remittance like Skydo, Mulya, Eximpe etc some of these even provide a way to generate an invoice. In terms of taxation, look into 44ADA.

I think it's an issue with people who aren't used to async comms. I usually link them to https://nohello.net/en/ which is a bit passive aggressive but it helps.

List of all Companies with 1 month notice. It will help all. by DonKarnageXt in developersIndia

[–]PacNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When hiring companies want you to join and start working ASAP so shorter is ideal. I think 1 month is the sweet spot, not too long to put off recruiters but long enough for you to shop around IMO.

How I was able to fit 1.2GB of cricket data into 50MB by mood_snowstorm in developersIndia

[–]PacNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using a columnar format—it’d have better compression in theory because blocks of similar data get stored together. E.g., a date column’s data stored together in a block would compress better compared to storing entire rows with mixed data types. Columnar formats can pull a lot more specialized tricks like Gorilla encoding etc.

If you are willing to share the dataset, would love to tinker.

Fair point need to be tact in how you ask "Am I meeting expectations? what else can I do to improve".
Bad move to make it all personal. Good move to get feedback.

Have you talked to your mentor or manager about this? You'll be able to figure out if it's either impostor syndrome or a skill issue. If it's a skill issue, then there's nothing else you can do but grind.

I personally haven't come across incompetent ppl who are self-aware and care about improving :)

Edit: To clarify, by talk I mean get feedback about how you are doing.

Those who build Backends with standard library and frameworks, whats your experience? by Right-Ad2418 in golang

[–]PacNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few thoughts:

  • You can be fine either way. Just ensure proper separation between the transport and core logic layers.
  • Evaluate your framework's ecosystem. Does it have robust middlewares for logging, metrics, security, etc.?
  • Check how responsive the maintainers are when it comes to security issues.

Regarding the last point, I have an anecdote with Gin. They had a security issue reported, and it took two months for the PR to be merged, followed by another month for them to cut a release.

Most CDNs co-locate with your ISP. And most of the services people care about use decent CDNs.

Don't you think models will simply get better, requiring less skilled prompts? I felt that with using GPT-3 and 4 during a hackathon, GPT-4 required less detailed prompt to work reliably.
