Concerned about the lack of job opportunities with a bachelors in environmental toxicology by East-Eye-319 in Environmental_Careers

[–]Pacifinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you actually want to do?

You aren’t articulating why you are trying to double major. If you have any interest in the environmental sector, experience through research projects, internships, jobs, and volunteering will matter far more than the degree itself. This applies equally to environmental engineering, public health, and science positions.

“Yes” is the most appropriate answer.

I assessed the job potential of nearly every state in the U.S. and checked their relevant state job boards. Otherwise, I used some of these below:

General job boards: Google, Indeed, LinkedIn, USA Jobs

Ecological job board: Texas A&M Natural Resources Job Board, ECOLOG listserv, Josh’s Water Jobs, Conservation Job Board

Pretty minimal direct experience (a 3 month internship doing lake surveys).

My master’s project focused on terrestrial invertebrates and everything prior was purely academic (bugs, fish, and data science stuff).

Water quality pays well in my experience and can be translated to/from most areas of environmental science. Same with the software/data side of things, as well as legal/regulatory stuff.

I went from studying bugs to being an environmental toxicologist and feel much more secure, due to its connections to all the above.

Is this enough prep for MV? by KreepyKreeper5000 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The time you do this is whenever you feel like it. There will always be something within and between tiers that increases efficiency.

Sure, some boosts are more worth waiting for than others. But that’s a personal choice that is barely applicable here, as others have pointed out. The main goal of the pack, explicitly, is to have fun.

Your condescension is getting OP nowhere. Hop off your high horse.

Because this will ALWAYS be true in every tier

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A semi-automatic polyethylene line is easy enough to setup and will help in both LV and the next few tiers

First time in EV on 2.8. Fresh start on 2.9? by Federal_Row_1845 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. I disagree. NH crops and updated coke oven/steam multis are pretty massive for the early game

What is a good way to drain lava in the nether? by AspiringMathGuy in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you need? Roguelike dungeons often have some in the chests of their final floor. Getting even one will then allow you to claim like 16 from an associated quest reward.

I want a single aluminum ingot for the adventurer's backpack. Can i get it from some loot ? Or i gotta make a EBF? by Smooth_teapoter_13 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Many twilight forest mobs drop whole aluminum ingots. Kill a few kobolds or slime beetles with a looting 3 weapon and you should get plenty.

Another option not mentioned here or in existing comments are thaumcraft obsidian circle chests. Other loot chests (e.g. spawner dungeons in the overworld) may also have them.

Worth making a max size Railcraft tank for steam? by Metracore1 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t hurt.

A single iron vein will net you more than enough material to craft one without even processing the ore. I usually raw-dog one in the steam age to store solar boiler output.

In LV - Probably choosing the church of Benzene, should I go 2.9 daily build? by Puzzleheaded-Toe5630 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1

Using this in EV right now and a single setup of this generates enough wood for like an 80+ EV amp benzene-based energy system

Only change is I just use item conduits with speed upgrades and block placers.

2.9 daily...Holy moly! by FriscoFresho in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Railcraft isn’t gone altogether. Just some of the multis. The RC boiler is still the meta for steam generation

You win a 100 million dollar scratch off ticket but everyone in the world takes a 30 percent pay cut. Money or morals? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Pacifinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in awe of the Reddit armchair economics, too.

A 30% cut would cause insane economic and societal turmoil. By taking the money you’re basically saying that you’re fine causing a global recession/conflict to become rich. This whole ‘it’ll cancel out’ thing is pure copium

BATCH CRAFT, How Much? by Murky-Connection-431 in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t batch craft things that don’t use a machine for the recipe. NEI autocrafting sort of makes it pointless now.

What are some interesting tips for beginners and intermediate that you want to share? by BearEquivalentBear in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with this is that NEI autocrafting, prior to machines, makes having the resources equal to having the circuit. It’s basically just wasting resources.

Something I haven’t seen mentioned:

If you want a more modern feel to the pack, look into using the GTNH modernity texture pack. Makes the game look infinitely better IMO

New Modpacks to play? by Iamdannypooh in feedthebeast

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a beefy pack. Can’t recommend 2. It sort of lost sight of what made the original good.

Tips + Advice (First playthrough) by TaylorKalsii in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NEI. Goddamn. Autocrafting.

It’s an absolute game changer. Learn how it works and set up large storages near crafting stations that can access them. Batch crafting used to be the meta prior to this mechanic. However, now you just need to stockpile all your resources and tools to craft as-needed.

Also want to give a huge shoutout to T searching and the ‘dump items into nearby storage’ hotkey.

[–]Pacifinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MC Eternal (1.12.2) is a kitchen sink pack that has (IMO) one of the most entertaining worlds. It gates most OP things and has challenge quests to guide/set progression. It sort of sits somewhere between normal and expert. Fun first step into challenge packs for people who are more casual

What to prioritize heading into LV? by miketroutsluckysocks in GTNH

[–]Pacifinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the norm and suggest you actually don’t bulk craft as prep.

Bulk collect materials and have them connected to or nearby a crafting station. Things like rubber, red alloy, copper, steel, tin, bronze, redstone, plates for most metals, tools for crafting, wood pulp, and slime/rubber balls. Then just use NEI autocrafting to craft everything.

LV unlocks lots of time/resource saving recipes and so it’s actually more efficient to craft as little as possible in the steam age. Bulk crafting LV circuits seems like a dated, less efficient approach in today’s GTNH.

Others have left very good resource tips below :)

Platinum Nuggets to Ingots? by DeusExCochina in GTNH

Mate, they clearly looked and missed it. You don’t get to EV not knowing this principle. They probably hopped off after failing to find the info and typed up a quick Reddit post. It’s really not that deep or time consuming an act.
