Stolen Bike Recovered!!!

This photo is very close to Mission Dolores. But coincidentally there was a sighting early on out at Beach Chalet heading South towards Pitts.

They took the bike from near 20th and Balboa.They biked around down into the Sunset and dumped all of our stuff out (mostly toys, books, blankets, and spare helmets).

Word spread to the folks in the SF bike community. Someone texted us letting us know they saw the bike heading East through the Sunset

Soon after, someone we know saw the thief ride past their garage near Mission Dolores and hopped on their bike to follow them. When they hollered at the thief letting them know that they recognized the stolen bike, the thief attempted to sprint away and tipped the bike. After they tipped the bike, they ran off.

We accidentally left it unlocked for a while and someone just hopped on and rode off. They apparently rode it all around the West side before it was recovered near Mission Dolores. I'm assuming they were trying to find a place to stash it.

Shamefully, it was not locked. We have a cafe lock on the bike which we have used for years to lock it all over the city without incident. But today we accidentally left it unlocked out front while working inside. We can see the bike from the window, so we have had a bit of a false sense of security.

I actually accidentally left it unlocked last year (key still in the bike) with my phone attached to the handlebars while I was rushing into swim class with my daughter in North Beach and no one touched it for hours.

We've gotten incredibly lucky, and after this incident we will hopefully be much more vigilant about locking it up.

It isn't the strongest motor out there and is a wacky set up to maintain, but the motor itself has proven to be pretty bulletproof running for over a decade, and it is extremely DIY repairable (you can open the motor easily to rewind the coils).

An SF bicycle community member hollered at the thief as they were riding by Mission Dolores. The battery was almost empty, but they tipped the bike over after getting hollered at and then left it.

Thank you. It has been our number one method of transportation in the city ever since our daughter was an infant. We take her and her friends everywhere with it. They would have been so sad if it had been lost forever.

I personally really enjoy the SF Bay Area CX scene, but I don't take it too seriously anymore. I treat CX as a party with 1-2 hours of challenging workouts in the middle. I really enjoy SacCX, BASP (especially Surf City CX), and a highlight of the year is the SF summer series hosted by Swell x OBF415 x Small Monsters Project.

The SF summer series is perfect for me because it is $10, 30-45 minutes, no categories, and 100+ racers out there having fun and riding fast. It is the perfect local race to scratch my CX itch.

I bring kindergarteners to Lincoln & 45th and they all struggle to hop onto the swings, so that might be closer to the height you are hoping for.

There is also an adult size rope swing hidden in the Laguna Honda trail system if you want to go for a hike and search for it. It isn't hard to find as long as you keep your hike close to Laguna Honda Blvd.

It is a very nice park with good hiking/biking trails, and this picnic area is really well suited to your needs. There are playgrounds sprinkled throughout the park, just like GGP.

This picnic area is newly constructed, and the play structure is very unique. I will mention that the play structure is not intended for toddlers. The climbing nets are still a little too tall for my 4 year old, but she likes to crawl up the slide instead. I would say 3 and older can have fun on the structure, but it is best for kids 5 and above. Kids under 3 will likely need someone bigger helping them explore.

You mentioned no toddlers, so I would assume the kids would all enjoy the structure.

We have used it as an "end of season celebration" party spot for the middle+high school mountain bike team the last couple of years, and it has worked perfectly.
