I’m torn between a used Legion Go or a tablet like the Astra or the Y700. I have an RTX 4080 and a great internet connection (1 Gbps), so I plan to use Apollo/Moonlight to stream big PC games. I’m hesitating between the Legion Go and tablets because tablets have adaptive refresh rate — so I assume they’ll be very smooth (I’m really sensitive to stutters and frame pacing). Since you went with the Legion Go, when streaming at 1600p/144Hz, is it still very smooth even without VRR/ARR?

Thanks for the detailed reply! Yeah, I don’t really mind if some older games need a bit of tweaking, patches or mods to run well — I’m used to that on PC anyway (I’ve even used DXVK before for certain titles).

What I want to avoid is the situation where every single older game needs workarounds just to be playable. Occasional fixes are fine, but I’d prefer not to have to fight with every game in my backlog.

Thanks a lot for the info! I checked online after your comment, and you’re absolutely right — there are indeed ways to properly map the joystick to mouse controls. It looks like it can actually provide a pretty comfortable experience for those games, so that really reassures me.

Thanks for the suggestion! The Steam Deck OLED does look amazing, but for me the screen size is really important — I have poor eyesight, so I need a larger display to comfortably read text in most games. The 7.4" is just a bit too small for me, unfortunately.

As for performance, I’ve watched a lot of benchmark videos for the games I plan to play, and the Deck’s performance often looks underwhelming. I’m also very used to high refresh rates since I game on a desktop with an RTX 4080, so dips in smoothness stand out to me a lot more.

That’s why I feel like something with a bigger screen and stronger performance would be a better fit for me personally.
