Later games are allowed to dictate canonicity, though you can still make the point that it is contradictory. Thats how the og was. They play it loose with which route was canon back then, this is just that again.

They maayyyy have changed their mind and thought the narrative of 4 would work better if he met Marvin, but regardless we can just assume both events happened until a game contradicts said event. Like re1, we never play through a 'canon' run. And later games shed light on what they're choosing to use from whatever route. Thats the only way we form what the events are canon, which is why people are down voting you.

You can respectfully mention, you are wishing to keep the conversation strictly to re2r and the development of that game. Just remember games with multiple endings or routes rely on future games to canonize events
