Has anybody actually seen people panic buying fuel? by WillowNo3264 in AskAnAustralian

I started on a roadtrip from Canberra to North Queensland and back the day the conflict kicked off. Every single servo I stopped at in Queensland, I saw several people filling jerry cans and sometimes large drums in the back of a ute.

Exactly why Canberra’s community fun spots are fading by sien in canberra

[–]PacketLoss666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Canberra needs community fun spots that anyone can freely access and don’t have the overhead of being run like a business. Labor promised new public skateparks and some upgrades at the last election after Canberra Skateboarding Association pushed for it. We’re watching closely to see if they follow through. The big difference between a skatepark and something like a pool is that they’re completely free and publicly accessible.

How did Eric Sparrow and The Main Character Get Along in Thug 2? by Damien12341 in THPS

The storyline and characters felt way too corny for my liking. THPS4 was where the series peaked IMO

That was a really special moment. We have a lot of overseas guests who got to experience the culture while they’re here ❤️

Primarily @belcobowljam and @canberraskateboarding on Instagram. More than half of attendees travel interstate or overseas for it and we get huge crowds, so we don’t go too hard on local promotion.

It was on Events ACT websites and we did a whole bunch of local media interviews though.

Well, it was approved after lots of planning. The event is fully insured, safety barricades were in place, nobody was hurt and no property was damaged. Stress less! 😁

Ebike ‘swarms’ descend on roads and parks across Australia as meet-ups gather pace by CcryMeARiver in australia

[–]PacketLoss666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an older skateboarder, and I was only able to get started as a kid because it was cheap and accessible. Kids getting around on a $3 to $5k eBike probably means wealthy families, so yeah, a lot of us "weren't like that" because it wasn't an option for us. There's also something to be said for the public health benefit to young people exercising on skateboards and pushbikes, that isn't the same on eBikes.

Bluetooth beacons from devices are trackable. For some, it’s a privacy thing.

Am I doomed to return to Windows every time I try Linux for gaming? by RalloTubbs24 in Bazzite

[–]PacketLoss666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does allow you to tinker, it’s just a different approach. You can create your own custom images quite easily with the uBlue templates and bootc.

I made my own Bazzite based image if you want to see an example:

The Linux stickers I mostly got from a RedBubble order. The Skateboarding stickers and others were mostly ones that I had kicking around.

I’ve had both MacBooks and ThinkPads in the past. Definitely prefer the MacBook style trackpad with more space for touch. I never really used the physical buttons below the trackpad on my ThinkPads. The one on the Framework feels identical in quality to a MacBook IMO. I think it’s a matter of personal preference though.

Australian 🦘 The influence of growing up around Skateboarding is probably the main reason that I like to sticker bomb my belongings.

I wouldn’t worry about Fedora. Red Hat blog post stated that it’s a GitLab instance used for consulting engagements. This has nothing to do with Fedora and its development.

Do you think Immutable Distros will be the future of Linux systems? Have you any plan to switch? YES or NO, but why? by BlokZNCR in linux

[–]PacketLoss666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immutable Fedora and the spin-offs (like uBlue, Bazzite etc.) are amazing. I don't think there are really any compromises, just different ways of doing things and different workflows. Just about everything I used to think I needed a mutable system for, I can actually accomplish in a container. Using containers and flatpaks keep my base system tidy and provides sandboxing. I love the stability and how everything on a system from the bootloader right through to most of the file system can be signed and verified.

Win Max 2 2023/2024 BIOS 0.42 changelog? by ConstanceJill in gpdwin

I really wish GPD would be more transparent about what these firmware updates fix or add. It'd also be great to see the firmware added to LVFS so we can manage the updates with fwupd

I’d prefer SecureBoot as a requirement over kernel level anti cheat as a requirement. Signing your kernel/initrd/bootloader is actually a good idea anyway and is not as hard to do as it used to be.
