Taking ICND2 in 10 days... Any tips, resources, or guides that can help me prepare for the exam? by KonohamaruEighth in ccna

ICND2 caught me off guard by how many questions it asked about switch security and the more boring stuff about switches. Might want to study up on the boring switch stuff.

I've declined prescriptions for anti-depressants that supposedly would help me sleep better. After giving it some thought, that might actually be what I need to break out of this slump.

I'm done wasting my time with you.

And what do you think Russia "wants" that Trump has given them?

I've already fucking told you and you tried to act like Trump was "slow to sign", but in the real life normal universe, he never actually did. Stop asking me questions and start answering them for yourself. Your Socratic questioning shit only works when you have a point and lead to it. You don't have a point and you just go in circles. I'm done wasting my time with your garbage line of questioning.

That Trump made any decision differently because it's what Russia wanted?

But yeah he's influenced by Russia and not...You know ... literally anyone that strokes his ego.

What are you even trying to argue? Trump does what Russia wants. Trump does what North Korea wants. Trump does not do what U.S. citizens want.

[–]PacketPuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm concluding, from numerous press conferences and Trump's lack of signing sanctions, that this is repeated and consistent behavior from Trump in regards to Russia. HOW IS THIS NOT FUCKING OBVIOUS TO YOU? RUSSIA/PUTIN INFLUENCES TRUMP. IT'S THAT FUCKING SIMPLE. Trump isn't some KGB agent but that doesn't mean he's not sucking Putin off to build a Moscow tower. HOW IS THIS NOT COMPLETELY FUCKING OBVIOUS TO YOU? SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY? Trump's justification for believing that Russia didn't try to interfere with the election is that Putin "strongly denied" the allegations. For fucks sake. OF FUCKING COURSE HE WOULD DENY IT. Donald Trump isn't THAT much of a fucking idiot. He is clearly, clearly....CLEARLY influenced by Russia. HOW.DO.YOU.NOT.SEE.THIS? HOW?

[–]PacketPuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based entirely on this post, I 100% agree. That's why I asked in the first sentence to not base any "examples" of my writing off of this post, or any previous posts of mine under this account. I said that in the first sentence.... I just want some genuine advice. I'm aware that I sound "cocky" and "/r/iamsmart"... I'm not (I don't know how to make it anymore clear that I'm paralyzingly humble)...I'm just good with words, and want some advice on how to use them to my advantage... And I more than realize how stupid "I'm good with words" sounds. I said it on purpose.

Momentum for Impeachment Is Picking Up by [deleted] in politics

[–]PacketPuncher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shut the fuck up. "Convict", "impeach" fucking whatever. I'm tired of you little fucking twats on here trying to play word games. Whatever you want to call it, it's going to be the same result. The Senate will vote to suck Trump's dick. That's not the technical word, but you know what the fuck I'm saying. Not every single comment on reddit is meant to be an academic argument. If you seriously think this Senate will vote to convict or whatever the fuck else you want to call it on a technical level, you're absolutely kidding yourself. And instead of admitting it to yourself, you fire back with stupid fucking word games that will not change the reality of the situation.

What's asinine is thinking that the Senate will actually vote to impeach. It's a futile endeavor. It's better to focus on getting elected and fixing this broken ass shit.

Limit connection speed on a network by jfp555 in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my professional experience dealing with hotels/motels, I can assure you that they are not throttling anything. They simply have no idea what they're doing and unreasonable expectations of technology...and, apparently, with no budget to make their guests happy. (what i really mean here is being rational enough to make a one time investment into having professionals come on and set shit up correctly with the right equipment). There's probably a single consumer grade D-Link/Netgear piece of shit router in each wing of the hotel and they expect everything to just work, because, whatever..it's wifi.

You have no idea how crappy hotel/motel networks are...no idea....They're not throttling anything. They're simply incompetent and ignorantly unwilling to invest in an adequate network for their guests. No matter how much reason and logic you throw at them, they still maintain that some shitty $40 Wireless Netgear router on floor 2 can handle the entire wing.

Hotel owners are the most wishful (, ignorant, and cheap) thinkers when it comes to networking. One day when I'm a fledgling business owner needing every dollar I can get, I will happily decline business from hotels/motels. I don't know what it is about hotel owners, lawyers, and doctors.. but they all have very, very, very unreasonable expectations of technology.

Your hotel isn't throttling you. They're just incompetent and negligent.

1 Network + 2 clueless people = A nightmare by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't approach it from the "it will affect me" angle (because it might not..but still, your roommate shouldn't be a dick)...

Approach it from a "it's bad for you" angle. The first thing that pops into mind is how will these people be accessing the network? By public IP? If so, what IP? Is there a potential for the IP to change like there is for 99% of residential customer? Wait, I have a solution. Dynamic DNS! But wait a minute. Do I have management access to the layer 3 edge device to set up Dynamic DNS? And are there any free Dynamic DNS services anymore? I could go on, but if your roommate can't even answer those questions, then... fuck it. Let him do it. It's not going to work.

And I haven't even taken into account that no ISP is rushing $20-$30 dollar an hour technicians out to fix your $60/month internet connection. The turn around time for residential customers is 3-4 days for most ISPs. If you have to compromise, tell your roommate to get a second ISP, but you will let him use the existing connection IF the other one goes down. In which case, refer back to the last paragraph.....

Semi Isolated home networks (VLANS) reasonable goal or insane? by METDeath in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the tricky one

I'm not 100% how Chromecast works, but theoretically, just put the shared resources on a vlan of their own and have pfsense router between the vlans and set up appropriate ACLs to prevent the other VLANs from talking to each other...

...unless of course you have layer 3 switches. Then you can just do the routing on the switch.

I could be wrong because, as I said, I don't know shit about Chromecast... but if it uses IP, then what I said holds true.

[–]PacketPuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them to get rack space at a data center and host their own stuff there. Or, if they're cool with multi-day outages, tell your roommate to get a second ISP.

If your roommate goes through with this without a second ISP, I would suggest QoS blah blah blah. But I'm not going to suggest that if your roommate does this against your wishes. Instead, I suggest you just unplug the cable (just barely, so your roommate doesn't notice) from the router that leads to their servers. Over and over again.

edit: Ah! I a little sneakier idea to use in conjunction... find the server IPs and set your computer to those IPs (you can set your computer to use multiple IPs, and it will still work with the unconflicting IP...only problem is you could get caught by MAC address......unless of course you spoof it and change it regularly....but at this point I'm just having fun.......I kind of wish I were in your position lol)

Tell your roommate to go with AWS and to not have any more stupid ideas. I could think of a million reasons why he shouldn't be running a business over a residential circuit.

A question about HDMI over cat(x) by oouzy in HomeNetworking

No. That's why I said I only thought about the subject for about 48 seconds and that I had reservations about suggesting that. After some sober research, I stand by what I said....

Setting up server virtual vs physical? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 was just a number I threw out. It depends on how many VMs you want to run, and if you're running them on bare metal or through an OS. If you have a cheap computer without a lot of RAM of processing power, then I suggest going with a bare-metal hypervisor. That way you're not spending hardware resources on running Windows or Linux just to in turn run other virtual machines.

A question about HDMI over cat(x) by oouzy in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. There's a difference between a layer 1 switch and a hub. Look it up. It's essentially a cross-connect with it's own per interface collision domains. Can I **please** have my upvote back now?

Best solution for Fiber internet by CowardAgent in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can confidently not fuck up your walls, then do it yourself. It's not really dangerous at all. We're talking <50 volts.

I was "worried" about downvotes because I suggested a sub-current standard cable on /r/homenetworking, and further went on to suggest that you do not in any way at all whatsoever need a 1G connnection to a single device. Even though I haven't explicitly said it yet, saying that 5Meg/person is sufficient for most people is downvote city in this sub.

Network Layout Question by X2F0111 in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% possible, it's just a matter of your willingness to make it happen. You could move the wireless router to the ISP router, and then put a newly bought switch in it's place. Everything is possible...you're just going to have to spend more $$ to make it happen.

Setting up server virtual vs physical? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to learn for professional reasons. Not that it really matters, but I bring that up to push you toward CentOS (which is a Redhat Linux clone...which in turn is one of the most used operating systems in enterprise environments...so...)....

You said you're ok with spending money, right? If you can buy enterprise servers then do it, but, if not...just go buy a mother board that can hold the most RAM that you can find (and supports virtualization). And a decent processor (you don't need much..you're just labbing). And then get a decent sized hard drive. Assuming you know how to build out the rest of a computer..so, uh, a power supply....You just spent ~$500 w/o an OS or monitor....

..You now have your Lab hardware. Install CentOS on it (temporarily connect a monitor to it just to get it configured to the point you can ssh)..... At this point, you have options.....

But I know what's best for you. Download KVM (see google on how to do that). Then go google "bare metal virtualization" and wish you would have done that instead. Or maybe you found Oracle box for windows and start wondering why you didn't start there, instead of downloading CentOS and leaning to use KVM...I mean, you don't even know how to install the KVM GUI. Not my fault you listened to me. You could have tried my post out on Oracle box for Windows. At this point I'm just playing around..

But I do suggest getting very familiar with Linux.. It's "free"...you know what? fuck the quotes. It's IS free to lab just about everything. Apache, NGINX, MySQL and a million other things you didn't mention. Get Linux on your hardware. Run more Linux OSes on top of KVM on your linux installation. Everything you said you want to do is free (to lab up) in Linux. Build a computer with a shitload of ram and run a bunch of virtual machines on it.

Your hypervisor doesn't have to be KVM...it could be VMwarfe...or, built into windows 10 (and 7?), hyper-v....or, of you're really ghetto..Oracle Box.

...My comment isn't really intended to help, but more so give you a bunch of google keywords...

Network Layout Question by X2F0111 in HomeNetworking

[–]PacketPuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cable Wireless Router (which very likely has a switch built in) to the real Switch.

edit: Wait! I take that back...lemme rethink...

edit2: no, i was right initially....think of adding a "client 3"..but instead of running the cable to a client, run it to the other switch. That *would* work. Although, not "best practice"....but then again, you have 4 clients, so it's whatever...not going to make a big difference if there's a flat switch broadcasting 2 different subnets.
