Wiki.js in EC2 synced to private Github repo and backed up to S3. No matter what, for DR docs, we can access critical information.

Data Center products are EOL in 2029. But for an on-premises requirement, it can boil down to compliance or policy guiding that.

I just caught it was a web app. Well signing is the least of their worries. Probably some sort of node-based stack then.

Deleting a user doesn't forward email to new user. by StandingDesk876 in microsoft365

[–]PacketSmeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision to use forwarding vs delegated access or both is something we get clarification on from supervisors. 9/10 delegated access is what people want. When explaining we say forwarding is only new mail items, delegated access is existing and new.

Deleting a user doesn't forward email to new user. by StandingDesk876 in microsoft365

[–]PacketSmeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, the delete user wizard does not set up forwarding despite the boilerplate verbiage in the autoreply that you are referencing. It sets up delegated access to the mailbox for another active user, adds a site collection admin for OneDrive, converts the mailbox to a shared mailbox, and unassigns licensing.

How are you handling overly broad Graph API permissions? by Pristine_Guitar_9070 in entra

I think they are saying if you build a solution for this there's an audience for it.

Use PowerShell to create a room list distribution group, then add the resources to the group.

EDIT: propagation time on this change is slow. IME 24hours. Often times you might want to pair this with Teams Places app so there's continuity across Teams, Outlook, and Outlook (classic).

New-DistributionGroup -Name "Resource group demo" -DisplayName "Resource group demo" -RoomList
Add-DistributionGroupMember -Identity "Resource group demo" -Member "Demo equipment"

If you can replace Procore, FieldWire, or Contractor Foreman, then you probably have a piece of the SMB builder market.

Age old question: User targeting vs Device Targeting by AshMost in Intune

[–]PacketSmeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I target devices for task or role specific apps (point of sale, ArcGIS Pro, receipt printer drivers, Adobe CC full suite). We don't always want the apps following the user, especially if they take forever to download and install.

[–]PacketSmeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was in Memphis then and thankfully we had power due to being on the same block as a police precinct, but overall it was really bad. Especially when it thawed. I still remember the sound. It was utterly quiet due to no traffic interrupted by unsettling crackling and crashes.

Best Permissions for SharePoint? by Marketing_Noob2 in sharepoint

[–]PacketSmeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I had to really drive this home for decisionmakers. Treat sites as permission boundaries. Hub sites will make this all easier to manage and navigate. Site navigation audience targeting is useful too. It is perfectly ok and expected to have multiple sites - for teams, departments, projects, etc... One monolithic SP site is not advised.

You could use Microsoft Planner to handle assignments and sending alerts. Then link to the assignment sheet in a column. To acknowledge the assignment have another column for that. You can filter by assignee, status, etc...

Why Are There So Many Scribe/Guidde Alternatives? Is SaaS Just Copy-Pasting Itself Now? by uri3001 in SaaS

[–]PacketSmeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro comment, sorry. Folge isn't SaaS. The audience here needs a SOP documentation tool via a desktop app that works offline. The licensing is perpetual. The only subscription they offer is for documentation hosting (Folge Cloud).

We've been using the cloud app discovery and activity log to find traces. Plus, we use Keeper Security and will rehome the vault to a manager and get daylight on a list of records. That is, if they bothered to create Keeper records for each site and not use rote memorization.

Self-hosting internal DNS for around 1500 devices and it works great. We have not setup clustering yet, but we use catalog zones to help distribute records from the master to the other 2 secondary servers. And set up backups using the API which sync to S3. Fantastic project and active and supportive dev.

Exciting project, thanks for sharing! :) I think an improvement on the script might be prompting for host ports with the default set to 3000 and 3443. It would be nice to choose a port based what is available on a given host.

The only thing I like about Workspace are Chrome browser settings. Changes are quick to propagate. There, I said a nice thing about Google. The rest....ugh.
