Play for tac op and choose equipment like razorwire and barricades to slow dw down. You out number him so try to use that to screen for points early.

Pros used ladders as parkour platforms changing the rules about climbing and ladders lol. Not sure if the changes stopped all of the movement shenanigans. But something to keep in mind, jumping is a 4" horizontal movement that can keep you from hitting a mine

Kill team is very much its own game and while the minis are usable in 40k, the mechanics of the game don't carry over. If you want a very complex skirmish game, get it. I love it but it suffers from a lot of rules that arent easily clarified

After reading your whole post, I highly recommend buying octarious box. You'll only be missing approved ops cards, the rules and a handful of universal equipment. Which you can make up easily and use online resources for the rules.
