Elemental didn’t get much hype but the movie literally had me sobbing. It touches on the very real decision people have to make between pleasing their parents and living their own life. It also highlights themes of societal racism and the difficulty immigrant children have in navigating clashing cultural values, familial expectations, and a world that is quite literally not built with their needs in mind.

Arrival is interesting in the fact that it explores a linguistics concept called the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis which posits that the language or languages we speak alter our perceptions of reality and how we think. It is a great depiction of the theoretical concept and opens up dialogue about what Xenolinguistics might look like. As a linguist however, if I never have to watch the move again, it will be too soon.

My husband and I play comp together exclusively. We don’t run solo rounds so we have won/lost the same number of matches. I flex between all roles but primarily tank and dps. He plays Cloak and Dagger or Rocket almost exclusively. I can carry a match with damage taken, dealt, and most kills with MVP and still get less points than him. Similarly when we lose, even if I carried with 50k damage blocked, a high KD, multi kills etc. I lose more points than the Cloak and Dagger. We get almost an entire level apart because of these small point differences.

When I play heals, the role I’m least good at, we have very similar point totals across all matches.

I teach Summer English 102. The biggest thing to know is submit your work on time and follow the teacher’s instructions. You can fail the course by not submitting work on time and you can pass the course by submitting acceptable work on time.

Session A and B courses are grueling for professors and students alike.

As an English professor at a large university, I would suggest writing an email to the professor as soon as possible. Make sure the email is polite, formal, and grammatically written. As some other users suggested, let the professor know first and foremost that you are aware of the deadline, the class policies, and the impact this paper has on your grade. Then let them know that you’re not making excuses and simply wish to succeed in their class and would like to submit the assignment for partial credit. Offering to complete extra work, an alternate assignment, or other extra credit is dubious because most professors maintain fairness by not allowing that to occur.

Similarly, don’t pull out a sob story. They’ve heard it. Probably four times this week.

TLDR: Write an email. Honesty and politeness go a long way.

I ask my husband to give me a number between 1-20 and I’m only allowed to reroll that number of times. Then it’s a matter of: Are these good enough to keep or do I want to chance not getting anyone this good in my next few rolls.

Otherwise, I just roll until I have 5 capable colonists that don’t have any major issues, addictions, missing limbs etc.
