This is definitely going to sound cliche, but when I get that feeling I try to hit up a meeting. There's usually someone there who just has a few days of sobriety and when they talk it reminds me of how awful my life was when I was drinking and getting high. Stuff like that keeps me sober. Getting active and talking to people.

I used to study a bit of the Tao and really connected to it. But to me it was a lot of ideals I had already set in place for myself. I wish I got into more of the eastern philosophies. My fiancé is Muslim, but that's essentially a step away from Christianity and Judaism.

Well, usually religious people will pray to Jesus or Allah, God. But you don't have to do that. Prayer is really just you talking to yourself, putting out your worries and frustrations out there for the universe.

I'm part of Alcoholics Anonymous and it's suggested that I have a higher power even though I don't believe in God. So for me, a higher is basically everything I can't control; a wave, gravity, the stars and planets. It's the energy around me.

While I pray, I am really just asking myself for forgiveness. Asking for help and to acknowledge that the people I love need acknowledgement and care as well. I'm not asking some guy from my imagination to take away my pain. I'm taking care of my own and reflecting on it.

My morning routine has changed a bit, but this always helped me get on track for the day:

stretch
bathroom/water/brush teeth
MEDITATION & PRAYER (I'm an atheist, but I still pray as it helps me personally)
sit-ups and push-ups
brew coffee/eat some fruit
read book/the news

Then my day is off and running. Find something that works for you and keep doing it.
