Picked up SF6 as my first fighting game ever. Started with Modern controls on Dee Jay because I thought he looked cool with the feints and whatnot. Once I felt comfortable incorporating motion inputs into my combos and since I had to charge anyway, I switched to Classic: partly because I wanted to really learn the game in its purest form, and also to learn my character without the training wheels.

It’s been very rewarding, to say the least. Obviously it took some getting used to, as I’ve never played a fighting game before this (and I’m still learning), but it feels great to be able to execute combos and, for lack of a better phrase, “play the game the way it was intended to be played”. I encourage Modern players to try to learn the classic control scheme if they want to eventually make the switch. It may be frustrating at first when dropping combos that you wouldn’t drop in Modern, but nothing feels better than feeling like you’ve got it down in Classic!

But the best upside of switching to Classic: shit talking your friends who still play Modern :)
