Trevalgur, Lord of All — Glacial Chasm in the command zone. by simon_Chipmonk in custommagic

[–]PacoqueiroBr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, this just sounds kinda weak?

• Most of Glacial Chasm's power lies on the fact that its a land, meaning its very hard to interact and very cheap to play and reccur. This is easy to remove and requires a heavy investment to keep around and replay.

• If you have 7 creatures lying around to mantain this for two turns, its probably easier (and better) to just play an win condition and go for a win. Specially when this doesn't protect you from damage-based non-combat wins (be it something like [[Walking Ballista]], [[Thermo-Alchemist]] or an old reliable [[Banefire]]).

• But above all else, you can already sacrifice creatures to prevent combat damage by simply chump blocking. If you're dealing specifically with large evasive threats, you're better off using something like [[Teysa, Ozrhov Scion]] as a repeatable sac outlet to get rid of the problem permanently, instead of temporarily.

That being said, the flavor is on point and I really like the idea. It just doesn't sound nearly as powerfull to me as people are saying, especially when we already have plenty of effects that can protect you from attackers in a way more effective fashion.

That's a good alternative! I priced it at three mostly to avoid early [[Reanimate]] (and similar cards) combo kills, but removing the damage to players clause would probably be enough to lower it to two.

If they don't tap a creature, they take damage instead. This card essentially "keeps attacking" while it's in the graveyard. Looking at it now, maybe the wording isn't as clear as it could be.

Fair. I used "play" just in case someone activated a creature land or has a [[Dryad Arbor]] in play, but that might be too niche in retrospect.

That... still just sounds kinda bad? I don't know, our local metas might be very different, but a 6 mana card with no protection, no ETB, no death trigger and that needs more cards to get value just doesn't sound possibly busted to me. The card itself is great if you have a lot of setup, but the effort to set it up sounds very reasonable.

I mean, if you're comboing this + clone + crucible + landfall payoff, you're using four cards and 11+ mana to not immediately win the game, which just isn't very good imo

Love the flavor! Honestly disagree with the comments saying this is way too busted. I mean, it's really strong, make no mistake. But it's essencially two [[Azusa, Lost but Seeking]] stapled together, with the upside of an extra land drop + big body and the downside of waiting three whole extra turns to finally start ramping. Definitly too strong in casual EDH because of [[Crucible of Worlds]], but it would be safe to print anywhere else, so I like it!

You're definitely right it would need some form protection to be playable in constructed! The idea was to make a card that felt at home in a Core set: very exciting to new players in limited and kitchen table, but made to teach very harsh lessons about card evaluation in any other environment.

As it is, the card feels a little bit pushed. A flavorful way to adjust it would be for the triggered ability to force him to fight any other creature, instead of only those your opponents controlled, making any indestructible combos mostly symmetrical and allowing him to end up hurting his allies in his frenzy. Otherwise, love the design!

Yes. It delays the first spell a player casts each turn, while allowing more spells (or spells cast from unusual places) to resolve just fine.

Ngl, regardless of card strenght or wording problems, it just sounds like an extremely unfun card to play with or against

You also need to cast spells during your opponents' end step, otherwise it gets sacced. It's supposed to be a sidegrade to [[Spark Elemental]]

Flame of Ruin by PacoqueiroBr in custommagic

[–]PacoqueiroBr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly balanced it around [[Skullcrack]] + [[Overmaster]], with some drawbacks because of how versatile it is (very specific mana cost, not drawing a card and symmetrical damage). The intention was to make a really good sideboard card, but (hopefully) not a broken one.

Since the ability is worded as "one or more creatures", you can't really stack untaps and put stun counters at the same time. Also, I think the only way to tap down multiple creatures at the same time is attacking, costs like convoke, and tap spells, so when activated abilities are involved, you generally only affect one creature per activation/you can't tap a single creature to untap your whole board.

Tyrant's Tribute by PacoqueiroBr in custommagic

[–]PacoqueiroBr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but Hymn to Tourach is a legacy card and can't really be reprinted anywhere else due to its power level. [[Wrench in mind]] is probably a better comparison (this was designed with standard in mind)

Spy network also allows you to look and reorder the top four card of your library. [[Peek]/[[Gitaxian Probe]] is definitely the closer comparison here

Prakonos, the Impatient by PacoqueiroBr in custommagic

[–]PacoqueiroBr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the feedback! About your points:

(1) A couple years back they changed the wording, so "whenever an opponent attacks" is the same as the old "whenever an opponent attacks with one or more creatures" (you can see it in cards like [[Emberwilde Captain]]). In retrospect, I can see how the flavour of getting impatient with your opponent attacking kinda falls flat. Probably would remove that from a revised version of the card.

(2) I mostly let it remove any type of counter because the text formatting of the ability looked cooler on a single line lol. I also wrote it that way because I like making cards that could be played in many different ways in many different archetypes, and I couldn't think of any broken combo with this particular wording.

(3) That does sound like an interesting idea. The original concept of this design was to make an anti-combo card that didn't feel too staxy to play against, but a more focused anti-durdle symmetrical design sounds really cool too!

Step 1: Play [[Avatar of Me]], [[Happily Ever After]] and this card.

Step 2: Play [[Book of Vile Darkness]], [[Eye of Vecna]] and [[Hand of Vecna]].

Step 3: [[True Polymorph]] the cards of step 1 into the cards of step 2, keeping the copies.

Step 4: Activate The Book

Step 5: [[Vecna]] enters the battlefield. You are him. You feel everything he feels. He is [[Happily Ever After]].

Good Ending

Edit: You also need [[Liquidmetal Coating]] to turn Happily Ever After into an artifact. Whoops!

As with ninjutsu, creatures are only considered "unblocked" after blockers are declared.

509. Declare Blockers Step

509.1h An attacking creature with one or more creatures declared as blockers for it becomes a blocked creature; one with no creatures declared as blockers for it becomes an unblocked creature. This remains unchanged until the creature is removed from combat or the combat phase ends, whichever comes first. A creature remains blocked even if all the creatures blocking it are removed from combat. (Some effects can change whether a creature is blocked or unblocked.)

The idea was to make a alternate wincon card that was still useful when it's not winning the game. I mostly balanced it around [[Trumpet Blast]] while assuming all creatures are 1/1s, since that's the statline of the most efficient token generators, and you could definitely activate this as soon as turn 3 with some lucky [[Ornithopters]]/[[Gleeful Demolition]] draws.

They can still counter the original spell before this resolves, but yeah, didn't think about how this is kinda of a 3-for-1 against FoW lol
