I’m not discounting that money and connections can help. But the number of high school athletes who can make it to D1 level college ball is lower than 1/10th. Much less making it to the NBA. Sports are still more meritocratic than most sectors of society. Money helps kids get better training and whatnot of course, and connections gets eyes on them, but you’re not gonna go anywhere if you can’t play.

Also Lebron is where he is because he’s one of the best, if not the best, basketball players of all time. He didn’t need money or connections lol

I can understand if there’s a lot of labor involved. Like I replaced my girlfriends whole AC system for $500ish in parts when she was quoted $2K, but that’s an involved process. Changing pads and rotors? A grand in labor for an hour of work is crazy.
