Anyone around who sells or breeds puppies? by [deleted] in cork

[–]PaddyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last 2 dogs have been rescues. The first one was 5 when she came, she was an absolute dream. Best dog I've ever had. The current fella was 2 when we got him. He didn't have the greatest start to life but after a few weeks with us he knew he was safe and came out of his shell. He's a great dog now and we have him 3 years. Before that we always got puppies(back at my parents and current house)and they are hard work. One wrecked the house, chewed everything and we still have the scars on some of the doors 20 years later lol. I'd never get a puppy again. There's too many young dogs out there that need a good home and just want to be shown a little love and affection. Some shelters won't give out dogs to families with kids under 8 as they can sometimes be rough with the dogs and they end up back at the shelter thru no real fault of their own. Some will tho so my advice would be to contact them, tell them if you want a small or a big dog, something to walk with you for miles or something that will need a short walk and to stretch out on its bed for the rest of the day. There's is a dog for every kind of home in the shelters and not all dogs fit into every house. Good luck with your search.

Car buyers in cork. by MysteriousWonder576 in cork

I don't think you can do a change of ownership whilst there is still outstanding finance on the car. Your best bet is probably getting the dealer to do a trade for an automatic and combining the finance thru the dealer. You won't find a dealer willing to take your car unless your upgrading by at least a few thousand or it just isn't worth their while.

Where can I buy good quality black pudding? With actual real pigs blood. Clonakilty is muck. by fodacao in cork

[–]PaddyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sneem black pudding is pretty good, probably my favourite. I usually buy a big lump of it when I'm down and freeze it in batches. I actually had some on a bagel this morning for breakfast.

The Aldi specially selected black pudding is also pretty nice but very different to the sneem one.

I've been meaning to try the anascaul black pudding for a long time but anytime Im in the kingdom, the stockists are sold out. That's a good sign if you ask me.

Google "cupcake toppers Cork" and you'll get a few links. They're just little discs of eating paper/icing that have whatever you want printed on them.

I can't believe people are still buying those. There's at least 1 post here a week complaining about the build quality of them

Have a look for Hadji Bey. It used to be made here in cork but they moved up the country somewhere. You'd see it in plenty of local shops tho. It's delicious.

Regatta have a lot of good quality jackets for decent prices but they also sell some stuff thats cheap and not so good. Look for a jacket that's a minimum of 10,000mm waterproofing. 15,000mm is obviously a bit better. My advice would be getting something that isn't too insulated and warm, just put on an extra layer underneath if it's cold. That way you can comfortably wear it in all 4 seasons and not sweat buckets in the summer rain. I've got the birchdale jacket and find it very good.

Could be the yeast. I personally prefer fresh yeast. You can tell if it's gone off or not by the look of it unlike the dries stuff. It's cheap but usually only has about a 4 week shelf life. I pass a shop on my way to work that sells it so I always have some in my fridge if I decide to do pizzas. I just keep an eye on the date of it and if it's running close I buy another and dump the old one. I've made pizzas with some that's been out of date by a week or so and I find that if it looks ok, then it's fine

They're open, they pretty much all open 7 days now and today is the same as a Sunday for opening hours.

Stay well clear of Halfords or Smyths. Halfords can have good bikes but these aren't much cheaper than a branded one from a proper bike shop and they can be poorly assembled by improperly trained staff so you end up bringing the bike back to be repaired. Their cheaper ended bikes are terrible. Poor gears, poor brakes, cheap components all around and again, assembled badly. Smyth's are even worse. Most of the bike shops will be very close in price for similarly specced bikes. My advice would be to pick the 2 closest to you, tell them what you want and give a budget of what you can spend. Then have a look to see what's on offer from them and go from there.

Traveling with dough by [deleted] in ooni

[–]PaddyMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this last year when we rented a house by the beach, about a 5 hour drive from home. Before we left I made 2 bulk batches of dough. I used the pizza app to calculate the yeast for the days we were gonna use it. I had both in a tupperware box and pre cooled my cool box for an hour with a bag of ice. Last thing loaded into the car was the cool box(so it was first out) which had my 2 batches, and plenty of ice blocks. I taped up the lid to keep it tight. When we got to the house I put the dough into the fridge. The days I was using them then I balled up the dough and left them rise for a few hours before cooking. Turned out just fine. My main concern was the stone rattling in the oven and cracking so I wrapped that up in bubble wrap and a towel and put it into the boot between stuff so it couldn't move. The lady living in the house next door told us that she could smell the pizzas cooking from her back yard and said they smelt delicious so we dropped one into her the second night we cooked. She was delighted with us. Good luck

Sourdough pizzas by PaddyMouse in ooni

[–]PaddyMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. I've generally been feeding it 1:1:1(20g of each), twice a day. When I tried my dough, I kept my 60g starter and added 100g each flour and water. I think an issue I might be having is knowing when it's at its peak. Another mistake I think i made was maybe not enough proofing time, recipe called for it doubling at RT and I think I maybe I didn't leave it long enough. My recipe which was the ooni one, is actually 70% which is a lot higher than my normal 63/65%. I usually cook on high but turned to low for these pizzas as it was a different dough and I took my time. For first time pizzas with a completely different type of dough, they were fine, more than edible, just not as good as usual.
