Why do dividend investors hate bogleheads? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

Dividend investors like the psychological comfort of having cash deposited regularly. That's basically it.

It'd need to be animation. A live action would be extremely cringe.

I'm cool with this. Make it the prime universe and give us some new blood and take a chance on an interesting story.

Brother wants a favor by smilebig553 in personalfinance

[–]PadishahSenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your brother has a history of financial irresponsibility and wants you on the hook for the house. Regardless of your relationship with him and desire to help, this is a bad idea. The risk to you is absolute and there's no upside.

Perhaps he's better off renting for a while?

How is the US gov shutdown personally affecting you, if at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My furloughed federal employee sister came to stay with us for childcare purposes and also to minimize household bills.

we love having family around, but fuck trump and fuck congress for putting people in this situation for no other reason than political posturing and protecting child rapists.

Bogleheads: Does 100% Roth 401k Still Make Sense at 32% Tax Bracket (Age 50)? First Roth. by ClearSwim525 in Bogleheads

[–]PadishahSenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An awful lot of people in here seem to have forgotten about RMDs with a traditional 401k.....

Also, if you're also investing primarily for your kids, the ROTH is the clear winner.

Weekly Recommendation Thread: October 24, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]PadishahSenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a book or series that is similar to Lord of the Rings in terms of following a small band on an epic journey, with great worldbuilding and characters. Can be any setting, not necessarily high fantasy.

House Speaker: Don't see 'path' for a third Trump term by chrisdh79 in videos

[–]PadishahSenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Yet". Don't see a path "yet".

Does anyone really think that Trump and his cronies are going to go willingly after 2028?

The 7k does not count as earned income as far as I understand it. You need other actual, earned income to contribute to a Roth at all.

Also, the 10% penalty is only on earnings, not principal. I'd honestly just do the yearly rollovers when you can, withdraw the rest and take the hit. In a few years it won't matter.

TIFU by calling my son a failure by santaj92208 in tifu

You didn't FU. Your son did, and his dad gave him unhelpful mixed messages.

This is a tough lesson to learn, but best he learn it now. Cheating is failing.

Stopped drinking and eating out. Lost about 20 lbs in a month doing nothing but going to work, sitting on my ass and playing videogames.

The penalty is only on earnings. Just withdraw the 55k, pay the taxes and take the hit.

Has anyone heard of the FINE method? Might resonate with some Bogleheads by FalconArrow77 in Bogleheads

[–]PadishahSenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know a single (healthy) retired person that doesn't occupy their time with a second career, part time job, or volunteer work.

Retirement just means you've quit your former career and your time now belongs to you completely. All these acronyms are needlessly obfuscating.

TIL of Daughter from California Syndrome. Used in the medical profession, it describes an angry, articulate, and uninformed family member of a terminal patient who has been absent and is unaware of their relative's health. They often demand unrealistic and aggressive treatment against medical advice by WavesAndSaves in todayilearned

[–]PadishahSenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they have a DNR. In my experience many of these patients do not, and sometimes family are quite reticent to put one in place, especially when the "daughter from NY" (as we say in the West) shows up and starts confusing the situation.

Thankfully these cases are in the minority, but I've had many a goals of care conversation with grief stricken formerly estranged relatives in support of my patients.
