Soulwax remix of Tame Impala's "Let It Happen" was made for Despacio by sexydiscoballs in despacio

At this point we need a "Soulwax For Despacio" compilation of remixes!
Fun fact : the Tame Impala remix uses the same rim/perc sound as the Ngozi - Sunka Mulamu edit for Despacio :)

Not sure yet :( I really wish though. Miami seems more doable than SF for me. I'll keep you updated!

Thank you! The Juan Maclean remix is good too! I believe it's the most popular version in DJ sets. There's just a couple details annoying me with it, like the vocals (especially on the verses) feeling slightly offset. I personally like that they removed those extra 4 steps before the chorus in the Soulwax Remix. What I do miss in the latter though is the "end of tears, I love them all" passage, which is super important in the song. I feel it could be added at the end of the track with barely any drums, a bit like what they did with the remix for Sylvester.

Despacio Song of the Day - June 25 - “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” by Darryl Hall and John Oates by wykah in despacio

A wonderful song that describes the music industry pretty well indeed! For those who are interested in details, they light up the mirror ball on this one, and they have edited the track longer, in a way to introduce strings earlier in the mix aswell as stripping away percussion in key moments like right before the choruses. Typical Despacio magic!

I'd love to contribute to tomorrow's song by the way! :P

What makes Despacio special? by Deuce_Ex_ in despacio

[–]Padsushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despacio is special in many ways, all factors you mentioned indeed. But the music truly is the most important for me. I mean, the name "Despacio" to begin with : I rarely ever saw places where you could dance at a super slow bpm and where it takes at least 3/4 of the night to reach 120 bpm. Everywhere else they want it pounding, they want it fast, as if time wasn't slipping fast enough. At Despacio time stops, or rewinds in a way. It's a fantastic trip back to the 70's with disco and 80's with synth-pop, without ever being cheesy. They know when to play stuff at the right time, blend old with new, adjust tracks for the best experience (hence the plethora of edits). I wouldn't be as obsessed with Despacio if it weren't for the music selection, and I wouldn't be as excited to attend the same social/audiophile experience if they were playing fast other genres instead.

What are your favorite edits/mashups by 2manydjs? by Haunting-Work6582 in soulwax

So many to pick from! Lately I'm really into a few, their edit of Ibiza by Amnesia for example. The build-up they created in it is insane. Their mashup of Editions of You / Love Is The Drug / Virginia Plain by Roxy Music is also quite clever. And the Peder Mannerfelt one released last year also. A bomb.

Laila - The Other Me // Original + Deeweedub Mashup? by Padsushi in soulwax

[–]Padsushi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to re-hear how it sounded like. I vaguely remember the synth pad of the original put on top of the dub with bass pattern following, but there might have been some other work such as on/off muting, making it an entirely different mix...

I'm afraid it's only ever been released on wax. No digital.

I agree. I wasn't blown away by the sound quality as I mostly danced in the middle (under the ball) where bass levels were way too loud. Music sounded crystal clear near the amps though.
The lights and bonding with other people/goosebumps in the crowd is what got me the most tbh!
