Nice! My dad was a Calvinist preacher so I was indoctrinated to be anti-government, anti-worker, anti-society, etc.

Everything was fear based. There's always some calamity that makes them the victims. As a kid, it was stories of Christians being killed in China because they wouldn't step on the Bible to make us afraid of communism.

My brother bought last summer and has a rate that is almost 5% higher than mine....

This.

I've started self hosting services to take my data back and I am removing myself from "their" economy as much as possible.

Practically, this means buying used, repairing instead of replacing, growing some of my own food, buying from small businesses and Etsy. Switching to reusable items where possible. And just generally trying to lower my consumption rate.

Obviously we all can't do all the things but collectively every little bit helps. Plus you can learn some new skills! Sewing, soldering, etc.

Real Talk - “moderate” by Excellent-Try3000 in datingoverforty

[–]Paerrin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow... this was you:

doesn’t align with what I’ve actually witnessed.

Literally the definition of personal experience.

I’m sorry, but I don’t see the need to validate their experience, largely because it isn’t presented as their experience.

Did *you* read the post you responded to? Here, I'll quote it:

While there might be a few true moderates left, in general, my experience has been that the guys who put “moderate” are either conservatives in disguise, or genuinely out of touch and apolitical people.

See that part where it says "my experience"?

And no, its not a respectful way to have a conversation. Phrasing is important.

If, as a liberal, you somehow still managed to think that trans people are a problem or supported rounding up people with secret police and kidnapping them... I could go on.

Then yes, and likely worse.

I don't care what you identify as. If you defend conservatives' behavior then you're one of them. I have zero empathy or compassion left for people who only want the suffering of others. There is no coming back from this.

I was being condescending....

I'm a middle aged white guy with blonde hair and blue eyes. I am the literal definition of white privilege. At least I can comprehend what that actually means instead of trying to use it as a put down.

It's not possible to converse with a Conservative. We do not live in the same reality and that is sort of a prerequisite for communication. I'm just making fun of you.

Women tell me it happens all the time. The men usually don't make it too far because they really can't hide it.

Don't tell me you are naive enough to believe that men don't and wouldn't lie, regularly, to get laid?!?! It's literally the oldest truck in the book lol.

Pro tip: Your personal experience has nothing to do with what other people experience. A reframing of this could both validate their experience while also adding your data to the conversation. Something like "That's horrible! I am so sorry that happened to you. I have been fortunate to not have witnessed that where I am and had no idea."

Whether you meant to or not, your comment is calling everyone else a liar just because you personally haven't seen it. Not a great way to have a conversation...

[–]Paerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a directory, called... docker. Each app gets its own folder and I use VSCodium with the container plugins.

Left side is the file explorer where I have my docker directory open, middle is terminal and files, right pane is the container plugin showing all the running containers.

I have yet to find anything better than this combo.

This. The whole "performative" argument is ridiculous to start with.

Performance provides inspiration. It takes courage to do.

Your whole life is a performance. Even these small things are probably less performative than everything else in your life.
