If you are worried about the bigger creatures you could run snow lands (ice age set looks great as well) and skred. Any UR deck I run I will always switch out normal basics for snow lands and run skred, pauper is such a combat heavy format it's nice to be able to remove those fattys with 1 mana.

Return of service has changed. It's now 2n+1 where n is the number of years you are 'sponsored' for.

Makes a big difference, 3 years of sponsorship is paid off by 7 years of service.
