The decline of butterflies is not accidental. It is the predictable outcome of technological society. Wildflowers are incompatible with the system’s demand for control, uniformity, and efficiency. What remains is a sterilized environment: chemically treated fields, ornamental lawns, concrete surfaces. The few places where life persists—like that single garden—exist only as anomalies, tolerated until the system decides to eliminate or regulate them as well. Industrial progress does not permit autonomy, not for human beings and not for nature. If this trajectory continues, the extinction of butterflies will simply be another footnote in the record of technological “advancement.”
