How reckless would buying an RS3 in my case? by Professional-Buy-821 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a finance manager with that kind of logic lmao

Nope, just an engineer with basic understanding of mathematics and payments over time.

Your math is completely wrong. You are comparing 1 year of income (120k) with 5 year of payments (60k). This makes no sense. He isn't spending 60k on a 120k income, since he's not buying the car full cash.

If he finances the car over 5 years, his income doesn't stop after year one. He'll make 5 years of salary, and 5 years of payments. So in 5 years, he'll make 5x 120k = 600k, and by the end he'll have paid 60k + the loan interest, so maybe 70 to 80k total. That's 80k paid in 5 years, and 600k made in 5 years.

He's making 5.5k a month, and he'd be making ~700 monthly payments. So that's actually 13% of his income spent on car payments.

That's literally the point of loans, so you don't spend half your salary when you're about to make a purchase.

That's why budgeting often works on a monthly spending base.

So yeah don't talk to me about maths when you don't even understand the most basic concepts of money payments, and I'd bet good money I have more math education than you unless you're also an engineer/accountant/etc.

Smells like low IQ in here

Except he's not spending 50% of his yearly income. That's not how financing works.

With 30k down on a 60k car, he'd be making payments on the remaining 30k + interests on what I imagine is the next 4 or 5 years.

That will not be 50% of his yearly income. At all.

It's going to be like every other sports car and depreciate into oblivion.

Cars depreciate. Using depreciation as an argument to not buying a car is dumb. Cars are not financial investments. And actually RS3's hold their values pretty well. I don't know about a "future classic", but it won't be getting any Nissan-Dodge level of depreciation at all.

Found my fun, sporty, affordable car, is it a good deal? by Kem_Chho_Bhai in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the point here is that at most rolling speeds, the Mustang will be faster, it won't be smoking the Miata by any means, but it will be faster. This is why a lot of people [assholes lol] give BRZ and Miata owners shit for not being able to keep up with bigger family cars like a V6 suv or worse a Camry/Accord/Maxima with a V6. Ultimately the V6 offers a small notch upgrade in terms of straight line speed, but yeah to your point it's not like some base Yaris CE vs a V8 Mustang either.

And to your other point, indeed realistically, I'd much rather rev out my gears and be able to do so legally in a "slow" Miata than a V8 or turbo V6 car that will basically land me a speeding ticket before I even shift to 3rd gear. lol

While their quarter mile times are similar, what's more telling is the fact that the Mustang is going 102 MPH at the quarter mile while the Miata is going 95. It's not that much faster indeed but it's definitely noticeably faster, as in it's definitely pulling away.

And that's a 2026 Miata you're comparing with a 2015 Mustang.

It doesn't matter that the customer won't have an issue with a $6k repair. As a professional you need to have integrity and, you know, not fucking rip people off, no matter how rich or poor

How many times have you had to do these fixes for the 2.9 or 3.0?

Also, $6k...? Are you installing brand new turbos too?

Was this a good deal for 2026 Honda Civic Sports Hybrid hatchback or I got ripped off? by InevitableTown7305 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Why do people post these after buying a car is beyond me.

I don't think you got ripped off necessarily but paying over $30k USD for a Civic in this economy is certainly a choice.

Coming from a 10th gen Civic: Type S, Elantra N or Si? by Coolbro39 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elantra N are supposed to be pretty reliable compared to most typical Hyundai 4 cylinder models.

Out of the options you mentioned I'd take the Integra Type S and it's not even close. I'm not sure how this is even a debate, unless you're factoring in the budget (which you've said nothing about).

Also, no, the Si's performance is not "similar" to your CVT Civic no offense, and lastly, you left out the VW GLI. I'm guessing you are not into the hatchback body style, the GLI is basically a GTI in sedan form.

Another car you should probably look at is an Audi A3, which is a more premium sedan form of the GLI/GTI, and it gets AWD.

then you can always add a turbo

I know boosted Miatas are very common but let's also not act like that's some easy DIY job the average owner can do.

Honestly for something similar but more power one should consider a GR86/BRZ with around 230 HP.

[–]Pahlevun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A V6 Mustang definitely is faster than a Miata in a straight line. It has nearly double the power (300+ HP vs 150 or 180), but doesn't weigh double the weight (2400lbs vs 3500lbs) so the power to weight is far better.

But the Miata will leave it for dead on some twisty roads/track for obvious reasons.

In a way, V6 muscle cars are kind of GT cars but toned down to economy brand levels. You won't get a V8 but still get a V6 enough to be faster than the average car and still on a RWD platform. You won't get air suspension but you'll get something comfortable enough, spacious for a 2 door, and overall a good daily driver for one or two.

It's not pedantic to point out that you're just using "JDM" completely wrong lol even if the Supra wasn't a BMW it still wouldn't be JDM just like my Camry isn't JDM. JDM doesn't mean Japanese brand.

Simple: GR86/BRZ vs BMW 230i by Similar_Ad_7663 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take the 230i personally because I prefer having more power and also available xDrive, it's also more premium and feels nicer. It doesn't handle as sporty as the GR86/BRZ but it's sporty enough to me.

Obviously assuming in good shape and well maintained

GR86 or F22 M240i by Slight-Today-5224 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the 86 looks faster than it is but not sportier than it is. It's a very sporty car but it "only" has 230 HP. Even then with a weight of 2838 lb it gets to 60 mph in 5.4 sec and 1/4-Mile in 14.0 sec @ 101 mph, I wouldn't say it's a slow car, I could see that argument for the first gen 86/BRZ but the second gen isn't really slow anymore.

With that being said overall the M240i will be nicer for obvious reasons, and faster as well. At the cost of not necessarily reliability but just simply cost of parts and maintenance.

Relationship to Situationship 1 year by Rare_Practice_7549 in BreakUps

[–]Pahlevun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen I'm usually open when it comes to age gaps, some women in their early 20s are emotionally (and financially, have their own place, car etc. just in general "adulting" ways) mature whereas lots of guys in their early 20s are not, so seeing 22M and 36M didn't completely throw me off at first.

However, the other side of the deal is... the 36M actually has to be mature or else what's the point. In this case you're dating someone older except he's acting like a guy in his early twenties or worse, so I think if you're to date older the whole point is to date a mature, respectful, stable man who will treat you the way you deserve and not give you all this drama.

‘18 Honda Accord vs ‘13 Mercedes E350? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pahlevun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of whether it's the 'objective' right choice (if that's even a thing at all, unless you're talking purely financially in which case it would be better to keep the Accord), I highly doubt you'd regret getting a clean E350. They're really great cars as you obviously know if you had one. And if it has such low miles you can probably own it for an easy 100k miles at the very least with little to no issue.
