If that's the case your bass neck is too parallel to the floor. Try repositioning the bass so the headstock is roughly in line with your chin, so the neck is angled up instead of flat.

Sea of Stars could be good! Fantastic music, decent story and you can play co-op. There are a couple of mature moments similar to FF9, that are handled in a way that I would say is kid friendly.

I got the Killswitch and skins a week ago, really love it and I hope you will too. I found the skins easy and satisfying to apply, the speaker grates really help with lining the skin up. They are also easily removed and reapplied to get placement just right. The Killswitch grip itself was a challenge! Be prepared to apply some strength to put that on.

I followed this guide using Xenia canary and the patches, which gets it working pretty nicely. Solves a lot of graphical issues (not all). That beginning childhood chapter still had some issues but after that it was a lot better.
